I think the best part of this episode is actually the ending, which has Homer successfully navigate parenting with all 3 of his children and clearly taking a lot of pride in that fact.
This is my most FAVORITE episode!!!! I have been a lifelong massive fan. I was 4 with a full Simpson bedroom set lol. This totally makes me tear up. Reminding me of my childhood and so many good memories
I remember this episode. Definitely one of the most dramatic and well-done from that time. It still ranks as one of the best Lisa episodes of all time. She’s always surrounded by so many negative influences in Springfield. Seeing her find one positive influence like this was just so refreshing. And that note he gave her at the end was so sweet. 😊
I had essentially this same scenario in 2nd grade with a student teacher. The trajectory of my entire school career would have been completely different without the little bit of focused attention she gave.
Idk if the note is uplifting or the ultimate joke on her: the ambiguity, the way the last shot is cut, the fact that it’s not a phone number as you might expect, such plain obvious statement, the fact that she is just eight years old and she can’t make any sense or solace out of it.
It always hit me like a double-edged sword.
Maybe is because I first watched it when I was 7yo and felt that note wouldn’t help me much.
Just wanna jump in here to echo what everyone else is basically saying – early Simpsons had so much heart and soul, and emotional depth. I cannot stand what the show has become.
When I went to a talk with Mike Reiss he said that episode was based off a real teacher that he had. The teacher was missing an arm so he had asked the animators to give the substitute some sort of disability. Mike Reiss said, “The disability they gave him was they made him look exactly like me.”
“That’s the problem with being middle-class. Anybody who really cares will abandon you for those who need it more.” Doh!
Season 1-3 Simpsons is incredibly wholesome.
Is that Dustin Hoffman?
Daer Ms Hoover. You have limes disease. Kevin’s biting me, please come back soon. Here’s a drawing of a Spirochaete. Love, Ralf.
I legit thought a Spirochaete was an imaginary animal Ralph made up until a year or two ago. Doh.
I was expecting dickbutt
One of my favs
Dustin Hoffman killing it as always

[A meme image I made from that scene](https://i.redd.it/rp8jzjb1tba81.png).
eh
it was. the watching lisa process her adult emotions and fixations was something that illuded me as a child when i saw this.
it cool to see it all as a adult with experiences.
Love the feel of how the voices were recorded back in those early seasons
I’ve always considered this my second favorite episode after King Size Homer.

The early seasons of The Simpsons had so much *heart.*
Can someone tell me the name? Mr. what?
Can we just let The Simpsons die already?
His hair color changes alot between the diffrent shots. Sometimes its brown sometimes its black.

Turned out what I had was psychosomatic.
That means she’s crazy.
No that means she was faking it.
Actually a bit both.

Is that the Pigeon Man voice actor from Hey Arnold?

Beautiful scene. Brilliant voice acting by Dustin and Yeardley!
…we are all Lisa Simpson,
no, youre crying!
A lot of our memes for the simpsons came from that one.
Creepy. I decided on a whim to continue watching the Simpson’s last night and, lo and behold, this episode was where I was at!
Such beautiful moments in this show.
This seems like an episode of My So Called Life.
Or part of the plot to My Girl.
Never noticed the “Afternoon delight” joke until now
This could be a great meme template
OHH so this is where my fetishes began
Classic Simpsons was the best
Woah
It’s almost like Matt Groening stopped putting heart and soul into the Simpsons and instead put it into Futurama when it debuted.
