When I clicked on this I was thinking, “Is this the one where he asks for his back wages?” Yes it is, and it is glorious.
This is fucking brilliant. I hope that man and his descendants did well in this world.
There are so many eloquent ways to say “go fuck yourself” and this is near the top of the list.
this made a 58 year old german cry. me.
Morpheus
That must have been an absolute joy to write. I bet the man that received it clenched that letter so tight and cursed him until he ran short of breath
Amazing letter but the people constantly laughing ruined the read.
Beautifully done.
You are a slave, Neo.
I’d be appalled by the gall of the former master to ask a slave to return but there are plenty examples of modern wealth’s complete and total entitlement and obliviousness that it’s not all that surprising.
I was laughing at first but as the letter went on, I felt sick to my stomach. This man was writing letters that put Hemingway or Twain to shame. He could’ve been one of the best writers or at the very least a humorist of his time, and he wasted away his life working as a livestock.
wtf this is from 2018? I thought the dad from fresh prince of bel air died years before that
Amazing he wrote this letter in modern English, and not 1800’s English.
Thanks for posting this. I’m now digging through the videos on this channel and listening to all the beautiful, tragic, loving letters be read by talented actors.
He’s so polite yet so relentlessly taking the piss out of him.
Love love love Lawrence’s reading of this wonderful letter!
Shame that this has been up for 11 hours and it only has about 20 upvotes. Why the downvotes?
>“What’s amazing,” says Winbush, “is that the current living relatives of Colonel Anderson are still angry at Jordan for not coming back.” Yet another example of how the ignominy of the past, no matter how much we’d prefer to forget it, never seems very far behind us at all.
Wtf.
You should see Laurence Fishburne doing a one-man play about Thurgood Marshall.
This is awesome! Is there a sub or website for kickass primary sources like this that tell history outside the typical white male gaze that it’s usually told from?
He gave that letter the proper emotions it deserved. It felt like he was him. Man he brought that letter to life
Audience ruin it.
Morpheus still red-pilling people as always …
