Is that sniper king?
Looks like crazy golf
I read this book called Flyboys, the first chunk of attempts to explain how Japan became the way it was leading up to WWII.
They had very few interactions with peoples from outside the island. The japanese at this time described the white europeans with big noses and red faces. (Presumably from coming from the cold seas)
I understand this is the tengu, but the tengu has origins that are not human at all, so this humanoid one is an evolution.
One theory is that white europeans arrived (possibly shipwrecked) and lived hermit lives in the mountains. They were bigger, white, and big nosed in comparison to the locals and then legends of them being “tengu” arrived.
