My dad worked security for them when they’d come through Chicago. Being a little kid, my grandma gave me a double live cassette of KISS, so of course they were instantly my favorite band, although a little scary due to the makeup. My dad told me, they’re smart Jewish businessmen that play music.
Reminds me of how Marilyn Mansons parents used to go to early Spooky Kids shows to do Merch. Nothng shocking to them about their nerdy son.

Edit: Btw I’m not dissing on them. In fact I grew up on KISS, Detroit Rock City changed my young life, can play pretty much all of Destroyer on guitar, was in KISS Army. I love KISS

Gene’s mother, Flora Klein is the real MVP. She survived the concentration camps and immigrated to America – supporting her son all the way and teaching him and encouraging him. She was one of my favorite people of all time. May her memory be a blessing. There was a great scene on their show Family Jewels – Flora was tiny – under 5 feet and probably 90 pounds. She could put her arrogant rock star son in his place so fast. It was so fun to watch!

Yeah, Gene’s parents aren’t in the pic. That’s Bill Aucoin’s mom and dad.
Gene’s dad fucked off out of the picture long before, and Gene’s mom is surprisingly absent because there are plenty of pictures of her with him in full make-up in the 70s. She was a tiny, black-haired woman who was barely in her 50s at the time.
