Coming to Canada soon.
In Japan it’s Auld Lang Syne
I can recommend the Kenny G documentary from last year, [Listening to Kenny G](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15174040/). It was surprisingly interesting and entertaining film, about the musician, and the music industry in general.
I wonder do Chinese shopping malls pay the performance royalties on that.
Back in my drinking days the bartender would play “Start Me Up” to empty the bar at closing time.
“Is he still alive?” got me.
And just about every pub and club in Australia plays Closing Time by Semisonic when it’s closing time.
This is my ‘just set up a new computer, want to check the speakers/sound’ video I pull up on YouTube. The song, not *this* video.
I knew the Chinese had an iffy human rights record, but this is too much.
They play it on repeat for up to 30 minutes at malls, restaurants, and other venues. He played in Guangzhou once and I went just to hear him play that song. It’s the only one most Chinese knew.
OP thank you so much for reviving this memory from my childhood 🙏
I bet it’s cheaper than Closing Time by Semisonic
Too bad he doesn’t get any royalties for it (I assume). He’d make *bank.*
Just because you don’t notice the connection between the bell ringing and your hunger growing doesn’t mean it is not there.
Why not Closing Time
Omg this was hard to watch. So much oppression and human rights abuses!
“Chinese stores play Going Home, to let people know it’s time to go home, we asked people what they thought of it.”
“It means it’s time to go home.”
Great content ABC.
