Just found this in the loft. Often imitated, but never beaten. The best MMO ever. Change my mind….

The lag was so horrible at launch I could hardly play it. Spent weeks attempting to play it. The devs kept making promises and excuses. So I don’t know if it was good or bad. I bet they eventually fixed the problem but it was a mess at launch. If I remember correctly you couldn’t be a Jedi either until much later.
I don’t think I’ve enjoyed *every* aspect of an mmo since. Character building was satisfying, combat was satisfying, housing and crafting were satisfying, the community was satisfying… It was a magical point in time that can never be recreated. Even if an exact copy of the game went live today available to everyone it wouldn’t be the same.
Listen I’m a star wars nut but nothing can beat RuneScape IMO
I didn’t touch another game for the majority of its lifespan. How we, the game itself was trash. A buggy mess with no content. JTL added amazing space combat though, I miss decorating my ships too.
The players made it so damn perfect. The servers were each a community, there wasn’t the toxic tears there are nowadays. There was less pleasant folks admittedly, but the population were there for mutual entertainment, not to one-up everyone else.
Although I remember killing a new Jedi with my droid once and set him back several hours worth of xp…
If you want to enjoy more punishingly complicated crafting designed by Thomas Blair, come check out Crowfall
The crafting was amazing, the player housing was amazing, exploring the galaxy was amazing, my guild was amazing, space combat was amazing. Honestly, that game was life changingly good until the NGE came out and we all had to move over to WoW. It was a bit of a buggy mess, but I’ll always remember it fondly.
I worked with a guy who quit the job so he could play Star Wars Galaxies. He said he would love to sit and listen to people play music in the game.
