That makes no sense. You can’t punish Russia without punishing Russians. That’s how a protest or boycott works.
If you boycott a shitty company like Nestle they have to layoff workers because there’s less demand for their product. You’re hurting nestle but also hurting people who work there that are innocent. That’s the nature of a protest.
In this case, banning these athletes from competition would turn more athletes and more people who watch sports against Russian aggression. It seems trivial but these types of protests add up if you’re looking to turn the Russian people against the Russian government’s actions in a meaningful way. Russian and Belarusian athletes should be banned from international competition.
