Opinion: Live at San Quentin is a better album than Live at Folsom Prison. He does three brand new songs and they’re all brilliant; San Quentin, I Don’t Know Where I’m Bound, and A Boy Named Sue.
I have to say, the composition of this photo is pretty incredible.
The colors, the textures, his outfit, his pose, the cigarette, all iconic.
I wonder if he knew, at this point, what an amazing show he was about to put on?

The label is ready to pour resources into any project he likes. Any songwriter, any backing band — call your shot, Johnny.

In 1968 he was 36 years old, only 4 years older than me now. But somehow he looks like he’s in his 40s and I look like I’m in my 20s.
There’s a big trail in Folsom that starts in the historic Folsom area and ends in the prison parking lot. It’s called the Jonny Cash Trail. a portion of it cuts through prison property and you’re allowed to walk or ride on it, so long as you don’t go off trail. Kinda hard to do that accidentally though as there’s a fence with barbed wire that clearly tells you where you can go and where you can’t. It’s a wonderful trail, great fun to ride on. There’s also a museum.
