Joel McCrea was born and raised in L.A. and grew up to be tall, handsome and a good actor could act in any genre, but he loved starring in westerns as he owned a ranch. He also bought up a lot of property in southern California in the 1930s and made a fortune. His marriage to Frances Dee in 1933 lasted until his death in 1990, they had three boys together.
