Jirard aka The Completionist implicated in Charity Fraud

Sometimes you learn things that you desperately don’t want to be true. But the further into the video I got the less I could deny he didn’t have any knowledge or involvement.

  • Not surprised in the least. Outside of friends or family, I’ve always believed any charity to be given should either be given directly to the source or IF it must go through some foundation/organization I personally make sure it is to a well-established, known and reputable one.

  • Ah man, I hope that this isn’t true, but having tax documents is pretty damning. Is the best case scenario that Jirard’s brother is a scumbag and Jirard has been too stupid/oblivious to correct the incompetence with the charity?

  • Can someone tell me what he or they gain by keeping all of that money in the bank account? Dont get me wrong, I think that it is disgusting to lie about the organizations youre donating to to gain more money for your ‘charity’, but if they cannot spend it (other than those ‘expenses for administration’ Mutahar mentioned), what is the point of not donating the money?

I can see the reason being only the popularity of his events and his channel, but I cant believe that that is the only reason. Either I am ignorant, or im severely underestimating how much it helps his channel or bank account.

  • People are giving him too much hate. The money hasn’t been used. Sure them collecting money for charity and it just sitting there for years is weird, but it’s still not illegal or immoral to be lazy/hesitant when it comes to doing something with it and until there’s clear signs of wrongdoing I think they should be given the benefit of the doubt.

  • My thoughts on this after watching Karl’s video and some of SomeOrdinaryGamers’ video:

    1. I work for a nonprofit in the dementia community. The comments about finding a proper organization to donate these funds to is valid. There are multiple concerns with the Alzheimer’s Association in particular that I think could cause some apprehension before donating to them (to be fair they also do a lot of great things too). Building a relationship with these organizations and trusting them with donors’ money is crucial and, on a surface level, I understand why they are so careful about finding the proper organizations they feel would carry out what they want to see in dementia research.

    2. All of number 1 is negated by the fact that they said they have relationships with UCSF, the Alzheimer’s Association, and other organizations and have been giving them money all along, but they clearly haven’t. Why ask Karl for a recommendation on what org to donate to? Why is Jirard stating they are still trying to figure out who to give all this money to when you are getting people to donate to your charity in part to the relationships you claim to have? The trust in this situation, for me, is gone for now.

This is gross negligence and being outright deceitful in the least. I’m interested in how all this plays out. I’m assuming Jirard will claim ignorance, but he claims to know the money was being sat on for at least a year and before this year’s Indieland. Meaning he still said the money was going to these organizations when he knew that wasn’t true. This is such a shitshow.

  • What is the continued resistance to giving the money? Something just doesn’t add up. They go on livestreams year after year (including *after* he said he found out the money hasn’t been going anywhere) and cite specific organizations they give the money to. So.. just.. give the money to them? Your audience donated with the expectation that that’s where the money would go. So just DO IT? What explains the continued reluctance to do so? Why give weird answers like asking Karl for suggestions on who to donate to? How about the people you said you donate it to many times over that the people donating the money were expecting it to go to?

I hope I’m wrong but something in my gut is telling me that all this reluctance to just give the money is because the money ain’t there or ain’t all there.
