He recently did a promo vid for Sonic 2 where he talked about listening to Pantera for the first time and than coincidentally meeting the band in a hotel on the same day.
Oh man. What a weird flashback this is for me. I had this recorded on VHS. My brother was kind of obsessed with Jim Carrey and would record every late night interview he was on back in the day. We watched them over and over. Pre-YouTube, this was all you got for this. I probably watched this 50 times over the years. What a cool thing to remember.
Ok so, he’s got good form. He’s joking about it, but those vocals were actually pretty damn good as far as metal goes. I’d love to hear him have a serious go at it.
It’s interesting to me that the end of this he seems to be showing signs that he is sick and tired of his own shtick. As he gets to the end of the joke it seems like he’s fighting to push it out and then he does the weird physical comedy stuff to mask it. Then he makes the very direct comment about having to like your own stuff, which seems like he is saying it about himself. I wonder if he was going through a difficult period with his comedy and trying to find “a new Jim” or something.
My sister’s friend’s mom was in high school with Jim Carrey. Apparently, the teacher of their last class made a deal with Jim that he could have the last ten minutes of class every day to perform for them to let out all of his pent up energy in exchange for not disrupting the class throughout. So, I think that part of his mannerisms in interviews at this time was in relation to the fact that he always had pent up energy just wanting to bubble out of him, and not just for comedic effect.
I don’t know if Jim has any vocal training, but the fact that his screams don’t sound totally shit for a non metal musician, and the fact that he’s making the correct mouth shape to produce different tones, and also the fact that he doesn’t seem to get fatigued from just 10 seconds of doing it.. Makes me think he has a decent understanding of correct technique. The man has talent in every form of expression.
Weird take maybe, and I know he recently said he was done with Hollywood (I think?!) but I would love to see modern day Jim Carey play an old version of the Joker. I honestly think it would be dark, disturbed, unhinged, tragic and fucking epic.
There’s a scene in ace ventura where he sings heavy metal, he sings in a few of the movies he’s been in
Cannibal Corpse was in Ace Ventura because Jim Carrey was a fan
Wonder if that is why Cannibal Corpse was in Ace Ventura.
His physical comedy is just next level!
I’m glad he hasn’t lost his fire. I like him in the Sonic movies. He’s a true goofball.
Stevie T made a song from this. It was actually pretty good!
Shoutout to Steve T.

Jim Carrey invented Opeth

Jim Rules!!!
Great growls, actually.
He honestly would’ve been a sick death metal singer
Watch Dirty Harry Dead Pool – Jim plays a rock star lip synching to GnR.
He’s like a real world cartoon
His ability to control every single tiny muscle in his face better than anyone else out there never fails to amaze me
I wonder what Arsenio is doin right now…
He probably at a wine and cheese parteh.
I just saw Napalm Death like 3 months ago, they are most decidedly not playing duets.
That damn smile
I think he might have mixed up thrash and death metal.
It’s like he was holding back in the movies 🙂
For all you kids out there that is Arsenio Hall, his show was huge in the 90s

My favorite comedy scene will always be the Rhino giving birth in Ace Ventura 2.
Jim Carrey absolutely owned the early-mid 90’s
You suffer. But why?

I feel like Jim Carrey grew into his teeth
I love the single “woo” elicited from the audience at the mention of Napalm Death.
Jim’s a legend
That man can unhinge his jaw…

Jim Carrey: *Napalm death*
One guy in the audience: *whooo!*

I’m curious as to how much cocaine Jim did in the 90s.
As a metal fan, this was hilarious af
