Jerusalem, 1897, colorized. The closest thing to a time machine that we have.

So. Much. SWAGGER!
Some wacky stuff going on here…esp that side to side sway dance
What is going on in the bottom right hand corner? Is that someone on their knees begging? Or an animal of some sort? I cant make it out.
Back when people could move freely and go wherever they please regardless of race or religion, not the apartheid city it is now.
Free Palestine!
Bet theres a MCdonalds there now.
Riffraff, Street Rat, Scoundrel, take that
Speaking of time machines, tell me why the two dudes in the beginning, the one guy seems to spot the camera and does a crazy turn and walks off camera while the other guy follows him. Time travelers for sure lol
Interesting to see pre-zionist Jerusalem.
The new AC1 remaster is looking great!
I have now watched this at least five times in a row, focusing on a different area each time.
I can’t help it – always thinking of how people must have smelled. Oofa.
seems so peaceful. i wonder what went wrong?
Gonna go out on a limb here and guess that the audio is recent sound design/foley.
Having been to what I believe is that exact spot, I can tell you it hasn’t changed. I would have just as easily believed that video was taken yesterday. The Old City is like stepping back in time. For example, you can rent a donkey to haul a heavy load from one end of the city to another, if you want.
Those two at the beginning really didn’t want their picture taken. Quick about face.
You can actually see the smells.
It wasn’t until the 1980s when neon pants were invented that the world stopped looking like faded Kodachrome.
Stop doing crappy colorizations.
This kind of videos reminds me that 7 billion people that roam this Earth will be dead for sure in 150 years from now and there will be another 7 billion in their place. The only difference is that their old videos will be in HD and Dolby.
Looks about the same
These people had no idea that future humans would be watching them through a magical handheld window while pooping
is there a modern day view of that same place?
How about that one person carrying an entire dining room set on their back.
That’s pretty amazing, I never thought I’d see real life 19th century Jerusalem in moving color
Weird to know that absolutely everyone in this is dead and gone and forgotten.
Ever notice how almost no one acknowledges the camera in all of these old film strips? You’d think everyone would be like “wtf is that” since it wasn’t common.
I’m by no means claiming the footage is fake. Just an observation after seeing a few other videos from 1920s and earlier.
BUT, the audio must be artificial like the color is, right?
When I saw this post on Reddit last week, the title said it was Cairo, Egypt…..
Some guy wearing a fez was kinda interesting, then trumped by someone wearing a table & chairs.
