A nostalgic song, written by Country artist Tom T. Hall, based on a local parent from his childhood. The hit by Jeannie C. Riley was a rare occasion, a song that hit US #1 Country and US #1 Pop during the same month. It was also a #1 in other countries as well.
This version sold over 6 million copies and won both CMA and Grammy Awards that year. Riley retired from Country music, moving to gospel music. Hall died tragically in 2021.
