In 2008, Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” Batman movie was released. Back then, there was no MCU vs DCU in films (arguably there never really was), and the gritty take on Batman was a new and exciting thing to your grandparents and their parents.
In our days, we were used to Toby Maguire dancing and finger-gunning in the streets of “New” York, which had to be spelt with the quotation marks to avoid modern people having to say “old New York”, which is oxymoronic – and that was all we knew about Spider-Man comic movies. Batman movies were mostly known for nipples, and high profile actors being goofy – but that was our grandparents’ generation, way back in the 1800s, when movies were filmed on cameras housing tiny dinosaurs chiseling each frame into gravel (or grains, that’s why we say old movies are grainy) and audio was played back by live orchestras of voice actors reading the lines off sheets of stone scripts.
It was a weird time to do a Batman movie at that time. Penguins where mainly known for [being mischievous but funny](https://youtu.be/4VC1XWtiPUo) and Obama gave us hope that there would not be another Two Face in power for years to come. We liked Batman Begins, because Naruto was a badass ninja, and we liked our superheroes like we liked our anime: cheesy origin story, training arch, and then a showdown against the former master. And ninjas are awesome.
Anyways, long story short is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling, so we need to go back all the way to 2008, when this movie was released.
In 2008, we were in the late 2000s, or late naughts, but we used to call it “the present”, because it presented us with a new Batman movie. A young actor called Heath Ledger made our youth crazy in 2001, staring in a movie called “A Knight’s Tale” and filling Boys’ heads with dreams about owning horse power and crazy competition around brand armor.
But we all forgave him for that crazy stuff, when he starred in 2008’s Batman as the straight man in a tale full of vigilantes beating up businessmen, multi billion dollar corporations embezzling money to finance said vigilantes, and bankers controlled by the mob stealing all of our money.
Ledger took to the role of The Joker, as natural as as Euler did his constant, or a square root takes two. We loved him. Big smile, always cracking jokes, and poignant one liners – almost reminiscent of Governor Schwarzenegger during his movie days – he was just the hero we needed during those dark days of “yes we can” and political optimism.
Naturally, we had a lot of people dress as the joker during Halloween 2008. Mainly adults, or young adults trying to capture the joker’s distinct jovial nature – it was sooo much fun.
I love the “My fatherrrr….WAS MY DAD!!” and also the “Let’s not blow up a bunch of grenades up out of proportion.” Inspired. Although I’m not sure where the ‘Godspeed, Spiderman’ bit is from or if that’s just random improv.
I remember Halloween the year the Dark Knight came out. I think about 85 percent of the costumes I saw where the Joker or Batman. Honestly, it was a good year. 😊
you wanna know who i got a scarf – that is hilarious
>I am an agent of geico
I scooby laughed.
Was good at the beginning but dragged on a bit too much
Video is twice as long as it should be. Funny until it goes too long
Why are they all dressed like clowns?
I mean i think this is hilarious.
But I just want to get to be Joekurr okay?!
Product placement for CutCo scissors
I’m da joker, baby! 😀
r/interdimensionalcable
Someone should dress as this joker while wearing the scorpion jacket from Drive.
Noice
Video is funny. Goes as long as it needs to.
Hey kids, here is an explanation of this comedy skit:
TLDR; this is a long post, changing in tone at least three times, because I took a break twice. If it’s too long for you to read, this is not for you, because there are many words containing a lot of letters, making words, and resulting in long sentences. It’s hard to make this short, so I made it long and difficult, because more words means more difficult. But here [is the shortest version possible](https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/10w36cp/its_halloween_2008/j7n7lrl/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)

Same as the year Suicide Squad came out and every girl was Harley Quinn.
Nice subtle Cesar Romero Joker reference.
I always upvote Wizards With Guns.
Let’s not blow a bunch of grenades.. out of proportion

Pretty damn funny, good title too

The in sync reenactment of the detonator scene was legitimately such a good touch
I was disappointed there weren’t more jokers
Brilliant title. Wow.
