Both earthbound and fire emblem were completely unknown franchises for me when I started melee at least fire emblem was capable to come to the Western market now
I mean.. come on… if I was born in Danville 40 years ago and moved to Springfield 30 years ago, I’m not going around saying I’m Bob from Danville.
Ness lives in Smash now. That’s his home.
It’s funny to me how popular Earthbound has become.
I only played it when it was released because a neighbor brought it over one weekend. It was the first RPG I ever beat. We went to different schools and when I went back the next Monday nobody knew what I was talking about. It was just a great game him and I shared.
Flash forward I guess 20 years and the Smash franchise started a renewed interest in the franchise to the point where now it’s unusual if you don’t know what the game is.
I don’t know. I just think it’s crazy how a game could be so overlooked for so long then become more popular. I love it though.
You’ll have the neckbeards telling you it’s called “Mother”, even though every single fedora tipper grew up knowing it as Earthbound and didn’t know it was called Mother in Japan until they were much much older.
I bought Earthbound back in 1995 when it was new. The clerk at the EB Games (or whatever it was called then) laughed at me because of how unironically cool I was.
It’s called Mother

To be fair, that is Ness from Smash. [This](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/cogdis/images/a/aa/Ness_cogdis.png) is Ness from Mother.

I wish there was a new Earthbound game for the Switch
Oh shit it’s Lucas’s friend from Super Smash Bro’s Brawl.
I’m just going to stop in to say that Earthbound, in my opinion, is the greatest video game ever made.

MOTHERRRRRR TELL YOUR CHILDREN NOT TO WALK MY WAY
I mean, ness probably could, with psi power, but also being the only one of the three who’s actually fought a elderitch being and won.
“The most oppressed group of all, *gamers* “
SMAAAASH!!
“Say my *game.”*
Hello Cloud from Kingdom Hearts.
*just the strategy guide* sells for $300. Earthbound is timeless.
Can’t blame them. Earthbound was quite fun back that time. But PK fire drove a lot people insane.
Earthbound is an amazing game that deserves more recognition tbh. A remake akin to Link’s Awakening would be great
Nintendo fans are the most insecure I guess.
More like smaaaaaaaash
Mother?
Earthbound is on the Switch now, just in case anyone wanted to give it a try.
You’ll have the neckbeards telling you it’s called “Mother”, even though every single fedora tipper grew up knowing it as Earthbound and didn’t know it was called Mother in Japan until they were much much older.
I like this hill. Bring it on, basement demons.
That is literally Ness from Smash. Use the right sprite for fucks sake
This joke goes for a few characters appearing in Smash though. Captain Falcon and Fox McCloud most notably.
is that ness from mother 2?
All I’m saying is Mother 3, screwed up ending and all should have had a western release.
Smash does reveal Nintendo needs to revisit their IP well.
Earthbound series could use a new game.
Fzero.
Star Fox.
Metroid a new game.
Etc.
Literally you have iconic characters and you don’t use them.
Hell even Pokémon has gone to shit since gamefreak.
