It’s because of this game that I became addicted to city building and strategy games. It still holds up today.

What game?
I loved the ambient sounds in that game.
For the love of god, can we please start putting the name of the game in the title?
My city burned down so many times playing this game, good memories.
Plebs are needed!
Wow I use to love this game. I remember we would play It in school for history class. If I recall correctly once something caught on fire you were in trouble
Is that the game that yells “need more plebs!” at you constantly?
Great game, played in many hours. One trick when doing a war scenario was to build a large amount of constable units as they had a sword and would also fight. It was great when you needed some army units in a pinch.
Btw, people have been working very hard to recreate this game as an open source version. Julius tries to recreate the original as faithfully as possible, Augustus tries to incorporate improvements.
The Gods were always angry lmao
I never played the Caeser games. Always looked good though!
Hrmm. I used to play one that I can’t remember that well, nor the title.. I remember you had to research to move through time periods. Like research for armor and weapons and horses and carriges, then tanks and planes, then I think the last one was like spacecraft or something?
Phenomenal game that got me into city building, history, gaming, strategy, and more. I am dreaming of Anno 54
Never understood how people played this game without cheats to get money. Every mission on my saves had that endless money well 😂
For me it was Zeus: Master of Olympus. Not that I was any good at it but I freaking loved it anyway.
Oof, right in the childhood
Me and my mom bonded over this game. I used to play the demo on my computer constantly, eventually she just decided to as well. One day she actually bought the game. It’s a cool memory.
Unfortunately, caesar 4 was a little to pc intensive and we couldn’t play it when it was new. By the time she had access to a computer that would run it she was bummed that she couldn’t build on a grid as easily and never touched it.
PTSD from all the fires intensifies
For me it was Ghengis Khan on genesis, and later, romance of the three kingdoms on SNES
This is my experience with the game as well. I would love to see a new entry in the line.
OH MY GOD CAESAR 3!!! The og game first one I’ve played on pc, even til now I’m still playing it
Fun fact: After building Actors Colony, all the actors roaming the city are named after actual Hollywood actors. Tomus Hancus, Bradius Pittes, Ioannes Deppa…
My dad’s favorite game, though he likes all of the Impressions Games (I think that’s the dev’s name) city builders, especially Pharaoh.
I tell you what, it’d be quicker to push these carts to rome then where I’m going
Impressions Games made the best city builders of the 90s and early 00s. From Zeus, to Cleopatra, to Caesar they were all certified classics.
You’ve run out of funds again, try to do better this time.
Campania – Thanks to our recent campaigns, the people of this province have been “Romanized.” They should be placid and welcoming.
Illyricum – Mineral resources are not plentiful here, but the people recognize our right to rule more than most of these barbarous lands.
Cisalpine Gaul – This province is fairly quiet, but beware of the occasional incursions of the Gauls to the north.
Corsica and Sardinia – Your mission is to manage the small island of Sardinia, to the west of Rome. One of the outlying villages has not been tamed, so rule with caution.
Caesar 3, Pharaoh, Zeus and Emperor – never get old!
Dude dude dude. There is a mod out there to modernize the game and make it play nice with modern computers.
It’s called Augustus and it adds some cool stuff from later games from the same developer.
-Building monuments (bid buildings that requiere delivery of materials)
-Better control over population patting
-Fucking widescreen support
I didn’t have Caeser III but I did have Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom which was the final in the 2D graphics City Building series (I think) and I played the shit out of it. I only wish that there wasn’t an asset limit. I did download a mod that increased the limit at one point but it broke the ability to view the China map and interact with other cities.
Omg is this ceasar 3???? I loved this game as a kid. This Warcraft 2 and StarCraft were like my life as a kid.
Have you tried the new remake of Pharaoh? I love it. the music sounds more realistic the cut scenes ate beautiful and the tips that are displayed when you are doing a new task during the campaign are easier to understand.
That game is still awesome. I was really in love with the warehouses/trade system. I could watch this for hours.
What’s the game of today that’s closest to this?
