Yes this is true.
Having tested this, that is correct.
It requires hdmi 2.1 not specifically 120 hz
Yeah it’s stupid but it might be true. I don’t have an xbox series x to test unfortunately. A 144hz monitor will be able to run at most common refresh rates between 60hz (maybe even as low as 24hz) and 144hz so that won’t be a problem (if it has gsync/freesync it will support any refresh rate in it’s range of typically 40 hz to 144hz) but console support for resolutions between 1080p and 4k is limited at best and will be the limiting factor.
Lots of monitors have HDMI 2.1. Mine does and it’s almost a year old
If it’s 2.0, no. If you have 2.1 then you’re fine, simple as that really, maybe you could go HDMI-DisplayPort and get round it, worth a try
Focus on the hdmi version. Your lowest port will dictate your highest supported rez. If you have a 2.0 port in your system the Xbox will be limited to up to 4K and up to 60hz.
2.0 should be able to run 1080p @ 120 fps as far as I know in terms of bandwidth but idk I’d Xbox series x would allow that. I think performance mode is dynamic resolution up to 4k@120 and adjusts down as needed to keep the frame rate up but that would definitely need up to the 48 GBps that HDMI 2.1 provides.
