I heard something more like “I don’t know what the hell that is.” Which does include an admittance to ignorance and not an expectation of rigid rules through the generations. Old people have plenty of time to vote and talking with them and showing pictures of your life changes their minds more than unseen antagonism
People were also high as fuck back then
Aerosmith- Dude Looks Like a Lady
Steven Tyler thought he was looking at a hot chick while the band was at a bar…
Bandmate said ” that’s Vince Neil from Motley Crue “
Don’t forget Marilyn Manson
I recognize everyone in this pic except the one on the bottom left. Anyone?
Bowie should be in this photo as well.
Go further back in time. See Jack Lemmon & Tony Curtis in Some Like It Hot. 1959.
Go back further still to Charley’s Aunt. 1925, 1930 and 1941
Artists were always odd ones. That didn’t change.
I have never heard this sort of “in my day” from someone whose “day” was the 80s. Most of us who grew up in the 80s were pretty well immersed into androgyny in pop culture.
More accurately, Fox News wasn’t constantly stroking their rage boner about things that do not affect them at all.
Gender is meaningless.
my Gender was Hair metal
Yes , but nobody made a fuss about it
No [Bowie](https://i.pinimg.com/564x/b4/52/ab/b452ab21fdeeee10256567314d5c2054–david-bowie-is-boys-keep-swinging.jpg)??
Dressing =/= actually pretending to be the other gender.
So gender isn’t a social construct??
Eh I’m sure we see a bigger percentage of gender neutral people on the street now than we did 40 years ago.
No one I know cared then nor now.
LOL had a coworker laugh and make fun on Jon Bon because he was a hair dresser and had big loud 80s Rock hair. Then he found out Rob Halford was gay and into leather. Dude lost his shit for some reason. I thought it was fucking hilarious.
“Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
It’s a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world…”
The Kinks – 1970
That quote from your grandfather was regarding regular people, not rock stars.
Add Liberace, Elton John and Little Richard
Nobody is saying this.
However, it is true *now.*
Sheep dip.
There’s always been people who bucked gender norms.
Edna Ferber was partial to wearing men’s suits.
But Prince still played basketball against men
Celebrities are not regular people, Show-business is not the real world, it is made up bullshit.
Try going to a job interview looking like Prince and see what position you’ll get.
I’m 74. My step-grandmother dressed as a man. In fact, many women have dressed as men to be allowed to do what men did before women were given rights. Men have also dressed as women which was done in plays for men playing women but also in things such as Shakespearian comedy. One of the best movies ever was Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis in “Some Like them Hot” (1959) where they dressed as women to escape the mob. The last scene is a wealthy man asking Lemmon to marry him where Jack confesses to being a man and the response is “Well no one is perfect!”

Also there is absolutely nothing new about about homosexuality or not identifying with the sex you were assigned with at birth.
Shalimar got this new girl that’s fine as a motherfucker
Queen – I want to break free.
Who says that, exactly
“but they were still men!” /s
Nope, whenever there has been a culture, there has been a counter culture.
At least in this country you are allowed to express it
Ever seen those men i high heels, wigs and makeup from the 1700’s. Pick up a history book and check out how pink used to be the color assigned to men and blue was a feminine color.
Are we counting musicians as people now?
These are also performers paid to look outlandish for the most part. Idgaf what you wear but this is very inaccurate.
Bye r/pics. You were hanging on by a thread as it was
To be fair those are artists and entertainers looking for attention.
Little kids shouldn’t be waking around dressed like this, demanding you call them “they”.
The sort of people who say that sort of thing would’ve called all of these people weird little f*****s or some other such slur as well.
The Founding Fathers wore powdered wigs and leggings…
Doing this was never a problem – it’s the rampant enforcement of ever changing rules lest you be named phobic.
That and a singular obsession for labelling and placing boxes around things which simply do not conform. It defeats the purpose of being unique and different when rules are placed around them.
This isn’t even an “old man yelling at cloud” take, people can do what they want but the whole “acknowledge me like I say or else” thing needs to go.
Just didn’t shove it down anyone’s throat!
How’s that straw man coming?
Gen X here. We never said that.
