In May of 1968, Aretha Franklin was at the top of her form and had exploded into fame with a string of top-ten hits which would later become classics. With a third album just released and on her first-ever tour of Europe, this clip shows us excerpts of her performance in Amsterdam during that time.

there’s something about music performances without the video, lightshows, pyrotechnics, etc. the experience is soley based on the music here and it made it special. a genuinity that has largely been lost with popular artists that a lot of us who are young really yearn for. its why i like local/house shows
This is amazing. Thanks for posting.
Billy Preston certainly got around back then.
Queen of Soul!🎶
She slayed.
Do you think they were high in Amsterdam ?

Dang Aretha! She was pumping out that dance juice.
I remember these days, I remember my parents having house parties and playing her records and having a great time, I love her voice.
Sweat pouring off her chin – still looks great & gave a top-notch performance.
Respect.
Bill Hader in the front row is loving it
TRUE talent!😍
Great performance, but the caption is wrong about her “third album” as in 1968 she released her 12th and 13th studio albums: Lady Soul in January 68 & Aretha Now in June 68. Aretha In Paris was her first live album, recorded on that same tour on May 7, 1968 and released October 68.
Hitler mustache on the MC got me fucked up
Wearing those hot Azz wigs-RESPECT ✊
Super cool video! Thank you for posting!
OMFG I SAW MY DAD IN THAT CLIP!!!
He played in Aretha’s band.
This is my favorite post in Reddit history. Thanks OP!
There are very few humans that could match Aretha’s voice. Whitney Huston, Jeff Buckley, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, maybe Chris Cornell and Mary J Blige
What was this clip taken from?
