Interesting note for WoW fans that the Deadmines was a level in this game… and a bunch of other locations in WoW originated from this game. Stormwind. Swamp of Sorrows is a level I remember. There were some cool old maps in the physical guide
*Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness* and the exp pack *Beyond the Dark Portal* was a big upgrade from *Orcs vs Humans*. Many hours, days, and months spent battling at LAN parties with this game and *DOOM II*. Good times.
No. I played the original Warcraft and it’s not a game that was particularly worth it. The controls were so bad. Honestly, it’s a mystery it even got a sequel. Warcraft II and its expansion are so outrageously better in every conceivable way.
I remember installing this over many floppy disks borrowed from a friend. Then I played for hours nonstop. I wonder how well it holds up today given Warcraft 3 has been shot and buried by Blizzard.
I remember playing this thinking it was incredible. Then Playing warcraft 2 and thinking. Wow. The first game is so slow in comparison.
A funny little story. I remember being like 8 or 9 playing warcraft 2 with my cousin who was like 18. And I loved how peons or just any one would talk. So I would constantly spam click people. And they’d get annoyed.
At one point I started spam clicking on a critter. And all of a sudden it exploded. And my cousin was like. “,What the fuck did you just do? How did you make it explode.” I told him what I was doing and he got on the phone to his friend like ” you’re not gonna believe this”.
This game was a big leap forward for rts. Crazy that blizzard released Warcraft 2 only a year later. Now it feels like rts hasn’t really gone anywhere for 15 years
Is that Warcraft?
That looks like it might be Civ I, am I correct?
This is the original Warcraft RTS titled Warcraft: Orcs vs Humans (or something similar).
Also the only Warcraft RTS that required you to build roads for building.

Edit: the original Blackrock Spire here https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Black_Rock_Spire_(WC1_Human)
And original Goldshire here

I can still hear the Orc peons, “Okay. Alright.”

ZUG ZUG!
Archer units were king in this game. All you had to do was make swarms of archers and it was a basically a win.
zug zug
This game is fucking brutal! Forget Souls difficulty, I struggled through some of the campaign missions. The sequels were much more forgiving.

Even better battling a mate over handmade serial cable.
Ah yes, back when Blizzard was great.
Is this the one that has the sheep that explode if you click on them too many times?
Yu want me to do something….okay
I grew up on W3, but I tried the first two. Unfortunately, I was really bad at these
It was alright. But man oh man when I got a hold of WCII and that Map Editor. Hours… years… of my life gone as a kid.
“stop poking me!”
Catapults and permanent poly morph!
ah yes.. the typical r/gaming post without naming the game title.
I miss slapping imps in Dungeon Keeper
One of my favorite things were the roads, as they cost money and did nothing at all.
Nah, sequel was better and wc3 even better.
I missed nothing.

Those were the good days.

Next year, StarCraft 2 will be as old as Warcraft 2 was when StarCraft 2 released
Thought this was war diary
Way to reunite every 34-40 year old in one image.
You could just play it now.
