and to finally getting good at the dam, to lose all your turtles making this very tiny but pixle perfect jump over a small amount of water >:(. (thats where i gave up)
I beat that game as a kid. My mom had a “beat it before i get you a new one” policy. I beat a lot of the “unbeatables” like this, battletoads, mega man 1, zelda… etc.
I had a car that would make the exact “low health” sound from this game if you opened the door with keys in the ignition. My heart rate would spike every time!
One of my greatest accomplishments ever was doing this entire stage while only taking 1 hit.
I was on fire that day.
However, I got fucked on the airstrip stage when I couldn’t find the right hole to take me to the Technodrome. By the time I made it to fight the Technodrome boss, I was down to my last turtle. Didn’t have enough juice in me to make it through the final stage.
I never had a problem with that level, but the level after this I could never figure out where to go in the van OR get enough grenades to blow up the barriers.
Fuck that level. I remember finally beating it and finished the game once but whenever I would do a replay, as soon as I got to that level I would totally rahe quit every single time.
Omg I hated this me and my brother play all they way to the final sewer lever and right at the end the was a missing block before you got to the final plunger or whatever it was and we always tried to jump it and you couldn’t do it you’d fall and have to run back through the whole thing it took months of our like 7 and 9 yr old ass failing at this to figure out you could just run across the missing block no problem I’m pretty sure that the first time I looked at a game and went man I’m dumb like 500 tries and never did I try to just walk across 😑 good learning moment though
My first NES game.
The stress. The horror.
…and don’t get me started with how much fun I thought I was going to have cruising around in my Party Wagon

“You can just walk over it” -AVGN, 2006
I had the home micro version, and it was *even worse*, you couldn’t rescue downed turtles, and falling into the water on level 3 was an instakill.

The digitized sound of death that you heard when you hit the seaweed still rings in my head to this day.
This woke up memories. Same with the mission impossible game. For a kid, these games were tough.
I can hear this painting. That’s normal right?
To this day I wont play a timed event in a game because of this fucking level.
as a kid who grew up in this era, i’ve never seen what lies beyond this fucking level. this level is why water levels are always a bad idea
i played with save states and I still couldn’t beat the game.
OMG this level was SOOO stressful 🤣
The hitboxs on the seaweed were so unforgiving
Lol… this game. Love hate… then switch to killing metal slimes.
It’s not that bad, with plenty of pizza anything is possible.
Im almost 40. I never finished this level as a kid. Kept driving around in the turtle van not knowing where to go.
I recently watched someone speed run this game. I had joy from seeing what happens after the dam and anger I couldnt figure it out.
I’m having a panic attack now, thanks.
Everything was fine until you got to this point.
I always thought that this level was pretty easy. The level I could never pass was the level where you had the Turtle Van.
I completed this game in one go without ever losing a life.
Oh and after I finished, I invented time travel, cured cancer and had sex with every model on this year’s Sports Illustrated
Funny enough,
going back and playing it recently it was terribly easy.
Perspective.
I love that raph is in this picture because any og knows they sacrificed raph to the Dam level.

And that was the easy part of that game.
I still have a working copy of this on my NES. I told my kid if he can get past that level, we’d go to Disney this summer.
It’s almost October, and I didn’t even have to Google how much tickets would cost.
I never had a problem with that level, but the level after this I could never figure out where to go in the van OR get enough grenades to blow up the barriers.
repressed memory unlocked
Need a trigger warning my guy.
Dude… dont remind me. Literally my earliest gaming memory.
Water levels in general just suck ass due to the reduced movement.
Hated that level. Timed maze with multiple target destinations. Brutal, especially for a 6 year old.
Ah, the good old days of gaming. Those pixelated nightmares were the best kind!
The reason I hated under water levels for years to come.
Fuck that level. I remember finally beating it and finished the game once but whenever I would do a replay, as soon as I got to that level I would totally rahe quit every single time.
I can hear this pic

Today we know exactly why it was as broken as it was.

That’s the last one! Should be called “Cowabunga!”
Fellow traveller.. 😐🫵
Upvote this- I need karma to post.
gaming was so hard back then, even your input had to be by the frame sometimes
This and refueling your jet/landing it in Top Gun
That was weird. I was just scrolling through and was instantly annoyed and didn’t why. This unlocked a core memory
