I honestly think *F-Zero 99* could be a heck of lot of fun, but since they’re going with the retro aesthetic it’s a shame we don’t have an entry in the series that uses both the SNES and Satellaview tracks and graphics that takes advantage of the change to a 16:9 aspect ratio with up to 6-player (or maybe 8-player) local multiplayer. Similar “enhancements” for the SNES installments of *Super Mario Kart*, *Top Gear*, and *Uniracers* would also be cool.
I love F-Zero, it’s probably my favourite SNES game (although I didn’t grow up with SNES so don’t out too much stock in that), but man I found this game kind of unbearable
I tried it out for an hour or so last night, and I’m not terribly impressed. It’s fun in small doses, maybe the sort of game you pull out for 10-20 minutes to kill time, but it’s shallow and *very* heavyhanded in its balancing. It’s doing the Mario Kart Wii thing where it wants the races to be random and chaotic, with the lead racers constantly being punished and racers in the rear constantly getting boosts.
I spent most of my time just getting pinballed in the middle of the pack, occasionally pulling ahead with a super boost, then getting pulled back again.
I’d be surprised if it catches on, or people spend hours and hours on it.
If you think about it, racing games are perfect for the “99 player battle royale” treatment, since it’s just a regular race with 99 drivers on the grid.
It’s a hype train that will get derailed once everyone realizes it’s just a slog to play
I like how they didn’t make not bumping into other racers feel like an impossible task that ruins the gameplay by adding the sky road, but these stages just weren’t built to have this many racers. Eliminating more players per lap than just 5 would make it more fun

Give me Mario 35 back, assholes.
I am disappointed they couldn’t at least make sprites for the 40 or so racers we do have instead of seeing the same 4 over and over

f-zero x but with better graphics and more tracks please.
i miss the boost sound and the devils call in your heart song.
Honestly, eh.
I’m not entitled to anything, and I guess it’s okay they’re doing SOMETHING with the series, but this isn’t it. Not for me.
All I can hope is that it’s to gauge interest in the series as a whole to see if they should make an actual new game.
At least it’s not a charged product
I’ll consider it ‘back’ when I see a new entry. If anything, this might be a gauge in interest. But, a BR mode might not be the way.
I’m excited for it
If I remember correctly, this game is too brutal for it to be a BR game.

A disposable online-only game locked behind a subscription – one of the lowest forms of gaming.
Why would they make it a BR? Seriously, I was excited until I saw the fucking 99 appear.
