I love the irony of giving a guide on how to present well formatted content being presented in possibly the worst format possible, and every part of it being low res or badly resized.
It’s mildly infuriating that they used the same picture for Xbox (new controller) and Xbox (old controller) – they’re both new controllers. And actually that should be Xbox Series controller and Xbox One controller.
Also, on the PS4 you can change the behaviour of the Share button so that a single press takes a screenshot (and a long press starts/stops video capture), so no need for 2 button presses.
The reality is, plenty of people know how to do this, but it’s still easier sometimes to just take a picture of your monitor. For example if you are playing a game full screen on your PC but you want to send it to someone through text on your phone. Less steps to just snap a pic and send. And sometimes the quality doesn’t really matter.
That’s real handy! Let me just make a quick photo of my screen to memorize this. (Seriously we need to meme that, every time this gets uploaded again it must be a picture taken of a picture taken of a picture taken with a phone of one’s monitor and so on).
I thought the only way to screenshot things was to take a picture of it with your phone at a slightly off angle with lighting that doesn’t really compliment it. /s
Dude I swear ps5 just does random screenshots.. I have stuff in my gallery from when no one was playing.. the controller was just sitting there.. it’s creepy. Freaking Dreamcast Ghosts in my Sony.
So for switch just take a screenshot, stop playing, turn off your device, remove the SD card, plug the SD card into a different device, power that device on, log in and copy that picture to the social media you want to use.
Then safely remove the SD card, put it back in the switch, power it back on, get back into the game and continue playing until something else cool or interesting happens. And repeat all the above again.
That easy…definitely easier then taking a picture of your TV or monitor screen with your phone and uploading that way. Genius.
I think gaming subs should straight up ban phone pictures. Unless someone is getting help with their BIOS or something, it should be the 1 person making the post putting in 3 seconds more effort, not the potential hundreds of people reading the post, having to decipher what the author was trying to show from a shit picture with a toe in it.
Now show me the button that auto shares via SMS or imgur
Most people know how to take a screenshot on their console, and how to share it. But sharing it where they want to with minimal hassle is where the decision goes from screenshot to picture of the screen. Especially if they don’t want to, or are unable to, connect their console to the services they share to.
Are taking videos/screenshots of games really that mainstream that modern consoles need a dedicated button for it? I understand it has use for journalists, but surely the average person just playing a game has no real use for a “share” button on their controller.
The issue isn’t how to take screenshots, it’s getting it to your phone quickly and easily to be able to post it on Reddit, etc. And for most people, taking a picture with their phone camera is still the fastest method of sharing it, unfortunately
That’s not the issue. The issue is getting the screenshot on your phone/computer to post it. Most people know how to screenshot but are too lazy to export it.
Because it’s faster to post quick snapshot. Doubt their quickshare options include reddit. Plus that means you gotta log into your social media on your console.
Honestly, and I know this is a repost, but this isn’t even a guide to taking “nice” screen shots, it’s just how to take them at all, the essential function to accomplish the task.
A nice screenshot depends on what you’re trying to show, and it would be difficult to break down into a quick and handy reference like this.
Can someone pin this?
Every photo on my switch was taken accidentally
If you just press and hold the create (screenshot) button on the PS5, it will automatically take a screenshot for you, without having the menu pop up.
no no no you just take the blurriest picture your phone will take of your monitor from about 4 feet away, thats how you share a screen shot.
On ps4/ps5 you only need to tap the button once. Unless I have a different mapping for it idk
Quick! Someone take a picture of this post using another phone and post it on r/gaming
/s
Steam Deck: Steam Button + R1
wdym screenshot? You dont like my super blurry phone pic of my monitor?
I love that they didn’t even bother finding a picture of the old Xbox controller.
This is outdated. The switch has a feature that lets you send screenshots and videos straight to your phone without using Twitter
I love the irony of giving a guide on how to present well formatted content being presented in possibly the worst format possible, and every part of it being low res or badly resized.
Sure, but once you take a screenshot on PS4, how do you actually do anything other than view it on that PS4?

Also switch format to PNG. Less compression resulting in better image.
This would’ve been so much better if it was a photo taken from a computer screen.

The problem isn’t taking the screenshot, it’s the faff needed to send the screenshot.
if you are on windows and have multiple screens, alt+prtsc will copy whatever ur active window is to the clipboard.
Instructions unclear, here is a photo of my monitor taken with a 2001 flip phone.
Nah man, you take a vertical picture on your phone!
ShareX > print screen

Any other ways to take a screenshot on PC? I have two monitors, it takes a screenshot of both screens, and I have to edit them every single time.
Has anyone ever intentionally taken a screenshot on the Switch?
Pointless guide. I have my old nokia flip phone for when I want screenshots.

I’m gonna start taking pictures on my phone at a 45 degree angle and post them here
Alt+F4 also works pretty well

You missed Steam button + R1

Still easier than exporting screenshots from steam deck
The problem is getting the screenshots off the device usually. Steam Deck takes easy screenshots but you need desktop mode to get them off of it.
I find it fairly funny that an image about taking good quality screenshots has such potato resolution itself
now the issue comes of how to get those screenshots onto your computer or phone to post them (excluding on windows)
Wrong. Use your phone to take a picture. Preferably in portrait mode. With an overflowing ashtray and 11 empty 2L mountain dews visible in the photo.
That’s not the issue. The issue is getting the screenshot on your phone/computer to post it. Most people know how to screenshot but are too lazy to export it.

PC is a little easier.
No thanks, I just take a pic with my phone.
All this still requires redditing from a PC, which is gross.
Ok now how you share those on a computer ? That’s would be an interesting guide ( for the console )
On PlayStation it’s better to change the share settings so that just pressing share takes a screenshot.
Honestly, and I know this is a repost, but this isn’t even a guide to taking “nice” screen shots, it’s just how to take them at all, the essential function to accomplish the task.

OP: Make a post about how to take a nice screenshot
Also OP: Post has a partial screenshot which is squished
Instructions unclear, took a picture of my monitor with my phone.
To screenshot playing on Windows is Alt+F4
