Saved for when I have time later. RIP Big. I liked Rob and Big a ton, a great time waster. Never did watch anything past that as my fandom for MTV died, it was never getting back to the 90’s at that point.
Great documentary… Happy the story about BIG was mentioned, also MTV’s insane fall from grace… They really DO play Ridiculousness far far too much, it’s not like there aren’t music videos out there to play…. They should rename MTV to “RTV” to be honest.
I just wanted to check a few mins of it but watched the whole thing. Thanks for stealing my bedtime… 😛
I loved Rob and Big back in the day. I knew Rob was successful but I had no idea he was on this level. Shit is impressive, definitely a lot to respect in how he played all of that out.
Ain’t no way I’m watching a 20 minute video on it, just checking in to say I had a pair of Rob Dyrdek DC shoes and they were the comfiest shoes I ever owned. They were like walking on clouds.
jaw dropped when he showed the graphic of MTVs programming, with ridiculousness being played for days on end. I haven’t watched TV in a long time, I knew MTV was shit (I’m old enough to remember them playing music videos). But talk about desperation. It’s like the whole station is slowly going out like an addict.
Rob’s programming also pulled back in the young male demographic, I’m guessing. Just personal experience but by the end of high school my friends and I were pretty done watching MTV. Halfway through college Rob and Big premiers and I ended up tuning in for another 5 years.
Rob and Big and Fantasy Factory were the only good shows he ever put out. Even then, I only watched them as a kid and stopped once I couldn’t get over the fact that they were scripted. Ridiculousness is god awful. It’s a dumbed-down version of AFV for kids and stoners.
wow legit i had no idea who this guy was because i cut cable a long time ago. rewind to early 2019 and im working as a CSR/Installation tech for a californina telecom. got an order for about 20 ip phones and a few mobile solutions for the big dog and his number 2 and 3. so im on the phone with this sales/IT guy and hes like “this is super important man. this install needs to be perfect. do you even know who your working for????”
(look at company name—-dyrdek something or other)
Uh, no sir.
“Rob dyrdek??? THE rob dyrdek?? skateboarding legend??? Mtv Star???”
haha i thought, “huh, i wonder if he was in tony hawks pro skater that i played on the N64?”
lol i legit provisioned this dudes personal phone number and had it in my list of clients for like a year before i left. i think i spoke to him exactly once about setting up a fax line(which he never used anyway)
its weird to think i could have called this guy at one point.
If that’s accurate then I have a lot more respect for him than I used to.
They were a desperate pile of steaming shit*

you know what would be great for that channel? show like little movies that go with the hit songs. you could have the band in them and everything!
Damn, I have no idea who this guy is. But that’s a hell of a life story.

Never knew any of that. Impressive.
I was a huge fan of rob and big. I even went to their house (drove by). It made a huge impact on me for some reason.

I hope when he retires he flips the switch and turns MTV back to an Music channel.

Ridiculousness is a shit show
This was a well done youtube video
Rob and Big was a fun show, ridiculousness was fun for a bit too.
I discovered Ren and Stimpy on MTV. I loved “Liquid Television” which also introduced me to Aeon Flux.
I miss their cartoons more than the music, tbh.
Why can’t they just rerun 90s spring break + real world. MTV hasn’t been good in 25 years.
Rob killed MTV

I always liked Rob. I just felt like he was a genuine guy, maybe a bit over the top but that was part of his charm.
One of the tvs at my gym was tuned to mtv a few days ago, it played Ridiculousness literally the entire time.

I always liked him. He seemed a fun guy and made some funny TV. Fantasy Factory was awesome.
Anyone remember Andy Milonakis?
“Yo, what’s up? Welcome to Ridiculousness. With us today is some c-list SoundCloud rapper and some random Instagram model/influencer chick”
Ha I just checked to see what is on MTV right now…. It’s ridiculousness
Companies and corporations stop being able to relate to “people” after a while of focusing so much on the money and the “PC” way of life.
They got desperate because they can’t relate, they relied on someone who seemingly could draw in a true “MTV audience.”
This is why new corporations need to be made by new people every so often. When it becomes about the money, things become stagnant.
The creativity and vision gets abandoned.
Thank you for this video. I knew Rob’s balls were big, but damn man, how does he even get anywhere with such gigantic balls??
Patrick CC been on his game
Ah the dark ages. MTV is still in them.
Fucking brilliant and savvy businessman. Nothing but respect for this guy.
Chanel West Coast is the most annoying D-list celeb to have ever been created. Her laugh should also be a crime.
If you want me to watch a long ass video, don’t insult my time by repeatedly wasting it on shots of the narrator I have no interest in. Duh?
MTV died after the 80s for me.
Rob and Big was the first reality TV show I didn’t hate.
