How Christopher Nolan Recreated the Trinity Test for ‘Oppenheimer’

  • When I saw Inception I was dumbstruck by the hallway fight. Had no idea how they did it. When it came out on blu-ray I took that day off of work. Was outside Best Buy before they opened, bought the movie the second they unlocked the doors, rushed home and watch the behind the scenes. I just had to know.

  • I know there are some people that say the actual Trinity scene was a letdown, and I could agree to an extent. However, I can’t help but appreciate how they got those shots as opposed to using CGI. Love this type of footage.

  • The Trinity test build up was incredible but the actual explosion was so disappointing and a very clear instance when CGI definitely was the route to go. I commend the effort of what they achieved practically but there’s a point where you just have to put aside your ignorance and distaste for CGI and realise that it’s a tool that can achieve the same level of quality as practical and in this case better if given the time and money it needs.

  • The best effect was the shaking effect when Oppenhimer was talking/thinking.

In the cinema I really thought it had to be done with CGI, but this BTS is impressive and a clever way to make it practical. For me this was more impressive than the explosion for trinity.

  • “the computer graphics would never give you a sense of threat that would you get from real life footage”
    Press x for doubt.

Independence day, Men in black had good cgi explosions.

Hell even terminator 2 nuclear explosion was better and that was from 1991.
