I think people are going about the topic wrong. It’s a FF game, obviously. But does it appeal to people who like the other FF games is the question people should be asking? And the answer they’re trying to get across is “No. It’s missing something from what I’m used to.”
Which doesn’t by any stretch make the game bad. Different is fine. But I think people are tired of overly serious, edgy FF games by now, they want something a bit more whimsical. The promise of returning to the fantasy sides of these stories probably brought with it some hope that this game would be more whimsical and charming- Think FF9 which had the same selling point and tried to “return to its roots” in a way people liked.
FF16 sounds like a good game, but it does continue a trend people are growing tired of, and fails to deliver on being a “return to the classics” like it originally advertised itself as being. I feel like this point is being lost because people are too obsessed with the phrasing of “Is it a Final Fantasy game?”
FF16 has bits and pieces of what makes a Final Fantasy game but it is still weird to me. I like it and I don’t want to be one of these but while it is a good game I don’t think this game is higher than a 6/10 compared to other FF games. Standalone it hits 7.5/10 for me.
The shift from party and turn based was going to happen and it has been slowly but this current game makes a lot of changes and not all of them make it an enjoyable experience. The game clearly, heavily focuses on cinematography and the plot, and it shows. These are the strongest points by far.
Every other aspect of this game feels watered down. There is no RPG here, party members can be removed from the equation with little to no effect on gameplay, all gear is essentially a group of stat sticks, and there is absolutely no incentive to explore because items were a complete afterthought in this game. Combat has potential but it can quickly devolve to button mashing and your success in any given battle is NOT contingent on your mastery of the fighting mechanics. You can smash Square over and over for vast majority of fights.
Combat is also why potions were dumbed down so heavily, we can’t buy more than the max allowed by the game because combat is so easy you could just chug pots over and over while smashing square lol.
Last one I played was 9. Kinda “aged out” of video games for a while. Tried 13 when I got back into gaming and couldn’t stand it. I’ll go play the old ones rather than buy what they’ve turned it into.
After careful research, I will have to concur. I wont go into much detail, but I came to conclusion that XVI is a final fantasy game because it says “Final Fantasy” in the title
But the real question: how many thousands of hours of blitzball have you played in X. Swear i put more time on that minigame than most series entire games
Do you wish the games hadn’t lost their sense of exploration since FFX like I do? I didn’t notice it til 13 fully committed to “run down a hallway for 20 hours” gameplay… But it hasn’t gotten much better since. I appreciate them stealing quality IP in game of thrones and attack on titan as much as anyone, but I’ve been hallway running for like 5 hours in 16.
I am a die hard final fantasy fan since playing 2 US on original hardware at 9 years old. There was always a point that dumped you out with not much clue as where to go… That slowly died off. And now we should call them combat scenes instead of cut scenes cause most of the games are a movie. It’s fine… Its not better.
Nice collection, you think the rumors on the FFX remake are true? Also almost finished 16 and it is fantastic imo, just WAY darker then ff had been traditionally
Which one wasn’t?
Which is your favorite OP? I have a soft spot for FFVIII
This guy final fantasies
I see The Spirits Within, your opinion is invalid /s
FF Spirits Within= true FF fan
Unfortunately, no Chocobo Dungeon or Racing, so I cannot concede to your assertion.
> No Final Fantasy IV DS version
You’re not a proper fan. Opinion completely disregarded.
Bro you didn’t even buy endwalker! Do you even like final fantasy?
Bro has Spirits Within *skull* truly a FF fan who knows suffering.
I’m not sure I can take you seriously without Stranger of Paradise being in there. /s
Do you like final fantasy?
Based on this picture, I would say you’re legally qualified to own a wild Moogle and open carry a 6 foot long sword.
Ser I don’t see Lost Odyssey, which completely counts as a FF game!
Is XV a proper FF game?
You really liked Final Fantasy 13, huh?
I’m one of the rare ones that love the 13 series.
Their cover art has always been really nice

Are people seriously complaining that FF16 is not a Final Fantasy game??
Also, that’s one awesome collection!
Where is final fantasy tactics + advance for gameboy? That game should be in each ff collecion.
Ok but can you explain the plot of XIII to me lol, because I played it and I still have 0 idea.
Edit: also like your copies of the import version of X and the steel book of XII.
This collection kinda needs FFXIV 1.0
How is it I’m not seeing the original FF1 NES?
Nothing final about this fantasy
No Final Fantasy Explorers for the 3ds.
He is not the messiah! He is but a man! Spit on him, my brothers!
Are we debating this here as well?

No nes cartridge of the original?

OP’s bank account: “By the flames..”
No nes or snes final fantasy games. This guys a noob ff6 is one of the best ff games.

I’ve been eating since I was born, but that doesn’t make me a gourmand (jk, impressive collection, I’m sure XVI is a good game).
I’ve only got 4-10, Mystic Quest, Tactics Advance, Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus (Which I haven’t even played yet), and the FF7 “remake”.
I lost a lot of interest when I saw what they were doing with 11 and that interest hasn’t really been piqued ever again.
That’s SNES box is clean, well done! It’s definitely my fave.
FF9 will always have a place in my heart
FF3 is really spicy there
But the real question: how many thousands of hours of blitzball have you played in X. Swear i put more time on that minigame than most series entire games
Not a big fan for handheld Final Fantasy games I see
Awesome! I’m so hardcore, I bought the Japanese Advent Children Blu ray release just to get the FF13 demo and the FFvs13 trailer!
Where is strangers of paradise?
If it’s so final why are there 400 sequels??? /S
Is XVI a good game to start with if I’ve never played FF before?
One thing that’s always struck me as odd about gaming is how fans like to dictate that something is or isn’t based on what originally made them fan.
People are saying it’s not a FF? It’s literally the most FF game I’ve played since FF9.
Sorry, I don’t listen to people who didn’t play Endwalker.
/s
That’s rad as hell, yo. Pretty envious of that sweet collection.
I don’t own any of them, but I could have told you that. They put it right in the title.

I appreciate the X-2 inclusion. I absolutely adored that delightfully silly game. Also 1,000 words was a banger of a pop song.
