* Natascha McElhone (Dr. Halsey)
* Jen Taylor (Cortana)
Looks like a departure from the Halo story, which isn’t neccasarily bad. John talking is a little strange, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it.
Interested to see what they do with the story as a whole. Could do without the Human Prophet lady, but honestly I get it when it comes to saving money and making a human enemy.
Overall, cautiously excited. 343’s overall involvement with the show is encouraging and I trust Kiki Wolfkill to not make this an aberration that Halo fans would hate.
Whoooo the fuck greenlit that Cortana? She’s like the only character who could actually get away with looking like a less-than-human CGI avatar. What the fuuuuuck.
Visually, it’s fine. People expecting super CGI are asking too much. It looks good for what it is – a first season of a TV series.
Where it falls apart is that it doesn’t showcase what makes Halo appealing. In which case, you’re missing out on the heavily militarized humanity, the sense of dread as a Covenant starship flies above and drops a horde of troops, battle hardened and crazed troops ready to hit hard at the enemy, Master Chief being more imposing (especially in silence), etc.
It’s more superhero genre and less military sci-fi.
Like, watch the short films that are popular among Halo fans/gamers and you’ll find that matches Halo more than this.
Visually the Covenant look great. The weapons and armors and vehicles look very cool. The story looks to be a pretty major departure from the games, I just hope they don’t butcher the cooler parts too much. Cortana looks uncanny in a very strange way. The Arbiter looks awesome.
I’m not looking forward to the human raised by the Covenant story line. That’s dumb as fuck.
Cortana looks fucking weird. I don’t care that this is a non-canon show, she looks off. What made them think her final design was acceptable? Just making her look like CGI, she’s a fucking hologram, she doesn’t have to look human completely. It’s like they gave the actor bad contact lenses and a fake wig.
Actually fine with Master Chief’s voice, and it makes sense if/when they ever want to take his mask off (though, I guess you could just do the Darth Vader thing).
The bigger issue is the cinematography occasionally looks dirt cheap. Some shots just feel very empty to me (thinking specifically of that desert planet where it feels one step above ‘old west desert town facade circa 1950’). And Cortana’s look kind of freaks me out.
Cortana looks shockingly shite and Dr Halsey is too dolled up imo. In game she was more plain, and portrayed as someone who didn’t care for such details. Her focus was always on the bigger picture.
I think in the books she was described much better. I don’t think they hit the mark at all with her. I’m sad now.
You can forgive master chief voice.. with time
Oh boy. Pro-human covenant. I can already see where they’re gonna go with this. As a cost-cutting measure they’re going to use these people 90% of the time as antagonists instead of having to use CGI aliens
I bet that shot of Chief fighting Elites is the most well see of them in season 1.
Dead on arrival if you recognize the writing on the wall

Idk man. Some of it looks kinda cool but there are lots of shots that have incredibly bland and flat lighting that makes it look really cheap.
It looks so cheap and expensive at the same time.
Well, at least Bokeem Woodbine is getting some work!
Halo has amazing music and they do a slow cover of a song. I want to be optimistic but not getting hopes up for this one.
IDK why they didnt had Steve Downes voicing Master Chief over since he doesnt remove his helmet anyway.
Looks like a departure from the Halo story, which isn’t neccasarily bad. John talking is a little strange, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it.

Fully expected to see The Arbiter bust out the iconic Phil Collins drum fill.
This looks so visually inconsistent. Like parts look great and others look like cut scenes from the original Halo game.
Whoooo the fuck greenlit that Cortana? She’s like the only character who could actually get away with looking like a less-than-human CGI avatar. What the fuuuuuck.
Cortana does not look good
>Find the Halo, Win the War
Save the Cheerleader, Save the World
The video shows up as unavailable to me
Looks cheaply shot and you can tell all the actors are tv-level in a bad way.
Visually, it’s fine. People expecting super CGI are asking too much. It looks good for what it is – a first season of a TV series.
Where it falls apart is that it doesn’t showcase what makes Halo appealing. This looks like it was made by someone who had the plot of the novels that take place before Halo 1 explained to them in a board meeting.
It’s got The Witcher feel going where it looks really cheap in places.
Imagine using that shitty music instead of the theme. smh
Glad to see Nick Sobotka land on his feet alright and become humanity’s greatest superweapon.
Hollywood won’t ever be as cool as the video games or comics they adapt.
Everything with the Spartans and Covenant looked okay.
But all the extras looked like theater kids. The music choice was bad. It lacks the grit and cool factor from the games.
I don’t have high hopes for this
Why do they even bother putting the overlydramatic cover of “In the Air Tonight” if its going to be blasted to 11 and covered in sound effects?
Cortana is just bizarre to look at. I’m willing to give this a fair shot, but that was a really wild rendition
Master Cheap
Actually fine with Master Chief’s voice, and it makes sense if/when they ever want to take his mask off (though, I guess you could just do the Darth Vader thing).
The bigger issue is the cinematography occasionally looks dirt cheap. Some shots just feel very empty to me (thinking specifically of that desert planet where it feels one step above ‘old west desert town facade circa 1950’). And Cortana’s look kind of freaks me out.
Iconic Halo theme

Phil Collins cover
Needed to be a movie like 10 years ago or a HBO series now with way more money
a human….raised on the side of the covenant..
What?
Looks like the world’s most expensive fan film
I for some reason needed a mirror. Maybe others do too:

Oh christ, the fucking music choice! Ugh…
So when does Mike Tyson turn up?
Seriously…a Halo trailer and no classic Halo theme song?
The fuck is that about…do they somehow not have the rights to it or something?
Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn looks like it had a higher budget than this.
My only question is: If Master Chief wears a helmet why not use the VA from the games?
The Halo series has some of the best trailers in video game history. They couldn’t borrow one of those guys to at least give them a story board?
This looks rough and my interest is kinda shot to be honest.
You can forgive master chief voice.. with time
So I reckon this will have 3 mediocre seasons followed by a cancelled movie, thus destroying the chance of a good Halo film/tv franchise.
I’m so sick of the musical covers….. can we please bag that trend?
Christ almighty….
This looks like a CW show made with Netflix money if that makes sense
Oh boy. Pro-human covenant. I can already see where they’re gonna go with this. As a cost-cutting measure they’re going to use these people 90% of the time as antagonists instead of having to use CGI aliens
