Honestly, part of it is probably because your similing, have hair, and didn’t paint lips.

The pic looks generic af, but yours is awesome.
Paint your lips, grow a goatee, shave your head, and angle your face down for the picture, and you’d be pretty darn close.
But you’re such a happy little devil, I’m sure you have much more fun than that grouch on the left!

Key differences in addition to fine detail would be use of a bald cap, liquid latex for blending the prosthetics, use of stippling brushes for makeup application, and setting with powder. There are infinite makeup tutorials on YouTube. Grease paint kits are notoriously difficult to work with, but if you have a game plan and know how to apply with other products, it’s not too hard to get those “makeup box demo” looks.
You have forgotten the most important aspects, lighting and editing

Wife is finishing a costume she’s been working on for a year. Those guys in Hollywood, they’re exceptionally good at what they do. Even with a $10 million budget, the special effects talent required is tremendous.
Even basic creature makeup without prosthetic appliances is something you learn over years and years of work.
