It kind of shows why the Japanese never really had a chance in WW2 against the US. Ultimately their tactics were still too primitive. Just zerg rush a target. And when that doesn’t work, zerg rush some more.
They really put it all in one attack: Pearl Harbor. And even the chances of success there were always a figment of delusion. And then the Japanese put all their hopes on the Battle of Midway… just to be utterly crushed. The number of US soldiers in the Pacific theater was a FRACTION of Allied soldiers in the European theater, and yet they pretty much annihilated Japan.
The bombs really were a “mercy” considering projections for a land invasion of the Japanese mainland considered anywhere between 6-10 million dead Japanese.
Eventually Japan just ran out of man- and material. IIRC Kamikaze pilots ended up hurting more than helping because you invested so much into their training and construction of the plane just to utterly waste them.
