Granddad on the USS Arizona in 1934. Fortunately made it off in 1938, only to to fight in the Philippines at the start of WWII for 6 months before becoming a POW to the Japanese for 4 years.

Wow. Your Grandfather has quite the history. Do you know where he was a POW at?
Did he share his POW experience with you? The Japanese were supposedly brutal to prisoners during WW2.
I used to stop into a little dive bar for happy hour a few years back, there was this really old man that walked with a cane and moved real slow, he always had his USS Arizona hat on. Every one showed that little old man respect. I can only imagine the story’s that guys like him and your granddad could tell. Respect to your grandad.
