Glenn Phillips saves a boundary in a very athletic but unusual manner. New Zealand vs India. (Fielder cannot be in contact with the boundary cushion and the ball at the same time)

Thats some athleticism and awareness in the same time.
I’m guessing it’s a point if the ball touches the barrier and it still counts as a point if the player touches the ball while touching the barrier?
My favourite part of this, is that a peak athlete in his sport, is rocking the same New Balance shoes that my dad mows the lawn in.
IMO, that should still be 4. The player moved the boundary rope far enough that where the ball made it to before he kicked it was probably where the rope should have been.
How is no one mentioning the toe breaking force he used to kick that ball! Cricket balls are harder than baseballs!
Talk about crashing into the right part of the ads. Nothing like having “Hero” in the background of you making a play like that.
So someone explain to me, how did this benefit them defensively? I understand the rule and athleticism to keep the ball in play, but give it to me in number terms? How many runs/points did he just save?
So what’s the ruling if the fielder touches the boundary cushion and the ball at the same time? Is the batter awarded more runs?
Do they have to run with the bat or can they toss it to the side like in baseball?
Someone explain the rules to me, what happens if the ball hits the cushions?
What the hell is cushnin?
I have never and I will never understand cricket
Casual American, just passing through, being confused as ever. Impressed, but confused.
I now know three things about cricket. Thanks for explaining!
What makes cricket so popular in Southeast Asia? Did they intentionally choose cricket over other sports played at the time or were others just never introduced? If it was a choice what do you think is so unique about cricket. Its practically the national sport of India, there’s gotta be something to that.
