how long have you been at it?
I was gifted a guitar in december, and have been trying to maintain 10-30 minutes a day since then.
I see improvement for sure, but I am curious if this sort of playing is a year out, 5 years out, or ten at my current pace.

The best way to get a cleaner sound is to play slower. Give it a melancholy feel and stress better finger position. The more you can play it nice and clean, the more you can play it faster and well.
And tuning it will be a plus for you and everyone else you want to listen to you.
