When exactly did this stop being a travel (throwing off backboard to yourself)? It’s a travel in high school and college and I remember back forever ago tmac did it in an all star game and they specifically made it a big deal that if it was a normal game, it would have been called.
It’s a missed travel call. He messed up his footwork. He picked up his dribbled and then lost his povot foot.
You don’t get an extra step after you’ve picked up your dribble and completely stopped. You’re allowed to pivot as long as you stay on your initial pivot foot. But if you don’t take your two steps after picking up your dribble, you don’t get them later on.
The refs missed the call or chose not to call it because of Giannis’ superstar status. Still a very impressive play athletically but it’s a travel.
(Section XIII – Traveling)
“d. If a player, with the ball in his possession, raises his pivot foot off the floor, he must pass or shoot before his pivot foot returns to the floor. If he drops the ball while in the air, he may not be the first to touch the ball.”
In addition to this,
“g. A player may not be the first to touch his own pass unless the ball touches his back- board, basket ring or another player.”
By my understanding it is a clear no call. Just great footwork and a nice self oop.
Giannis really spent all year watching people say Jokic, Steph, KD and Embiid were the best players on the planet while everyone forgot about the Bucks lmao dude is still the most unguardable player in the nba
Tmac did this at all star game years ago. Giannis pulling this in a playoff game is crazy. Celtics were pretty beat up by the end don’t know how they’re going to stop Giannis. Budenholzer almost the same coach as Udoka having learned from popovich. It might not go 6 games
I’m honestly trying to learn here and not start anything. He clearly sets his right foot as his pivot foot, but then lifts his pivot foot a bit…can someone explain how that works rules-wise?
I see all the posts about being allowed to shoot or pass after picking up your pivot foot.
It could be argued that his first action after picking up his pivot foot was taking an additional step. So the question is, are you allowed to lift your pivot then take an additional step? Or is that traveling?
“I’m just trying to fight hard for playing time and earn the respect of my team” -probably Giannis.
Offensive charge on Giannis and turnover- my ruling
Giannis is so good.
I would have been called for traveling if i did that.

Travel
Damn!
Does…he get scored a miss, assist, rebound, and score on that play?

That’s a self pass when I used to play

Edit: I meant to say that the play was clean

Pretty sure that was called “Dinner’s Served” back in NBA Street
