Classic
He was inspired by, and possibly borrowed heavily from William Lutz’s books.

When people say “near miss” when they mean near hit, it bugs me.
“That really takes the cake”
“……where?”
Carlin’s obviously on the Mount Rushmore of Comedy, but this phase of his career, when he was intentionally misunderstanding things just so he could pedantically nitpick them was painful. Like the proverbial “Willie Mays stumbling around the outfield for the Mets.”
Drives me crazy hearing people say “What it is, is …” or “It is what it is”
One of my heroes, the GOAT Comedian/philosopher.
this is peak Carlin to me. not all that preachy stuff about society. I mean, I agree with a lot of that stuff but it’s not funny to me. it’s just preaching. but this… this kills me. his jokes about language and wordplay have always been my favourite
*CRASH “Oh look, they nearly missed.” Is how it goes.
“Evel Knievel can get *ON* the plane, I plan on getting *IN* it.”
One of my favorites. Say it every time I’m waiting in line for flights.
People in the 90’s were so easily entertained; it’s adorable. I love George Carlin, but he’s got way better sets than this.
I have never LOLed while watching Carlin.
Religion has convinced people that there’s an invisible man … living in the sky. Who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn’t want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer, and suffer, and burn, and scream, until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you. He loves you and he needs money
Ah old school Carlin when he still cared about jokes before he gave up and just started ranting.
I guess this might have been funny back in the day..?
I love the dude around 15 seconds in who says “fuck yeah” to the fact that we don’t think about certain expressions, like this is the set up to the set up of the joke, calm down
