Huge Bowie fan…lifelong…
LOVE this performance!
Thanks for posting!
I love David Bowie, but I can never forgive him for stealing this from Vanilla Ice
GAD is so freakin’ awesome…I love watching her play! One of my top 3 favorite Bowie musicians: GAD, Mick Ronson, and Reeves Gabrels.
Damn, that was good. Gave me a lump in my throat.
David Bowie was a good person. May he RIP.
Huge Bowie fan but I’ve never seen this. Absolutely incredible.
And now…Yoko Ono! *shrieks*
That was a awesome performance of the song
How did those in the audience not jump out of their seats when this ended?
Hell, I did at home.
Wow. Bowie is amazing as always.
But I was surprised to be so impressed by someone else doing Freddy’s part. He’s a hard artist to cover well, she did so beautifully.
I may look up some of her other work later, any suggestions of songs to look for?
Beautiful!
Does she play bass for Lenny Kravitz now ?
such beauty
Saw him play this live when he toured with NIN. My concert experience peaked when I was waaaay too young to appreciate it.
I love Gail. Has anyone heard her story about this?
Paraphrasing – David gives her the track and asks her to learn it. He wants her to sing the main lyric. She says ok, but who will do my bass part? He smiled and said the equivalent of you got this and you will be doing both. I want to perform it live in a couple of weeks.
No pressure 🙂
*I found another version of her singing this and really belting it out. I think she’s one of the best bass players of our generation.
’96 was still the 80”s.
Saw them do this live in 1997, it was absolutely fantastic. That remains my #1 all time concert.
Miss the Thin White Duke. Sad day when we lost him.
No homo but damn David Bowie was a gorgeous man and musical genius. Dude was totally unique except for this song of course
Bass and killer vocal part – love her!
Fucking fantastic!
Enjoyed the drums as well
Thanks for posting. This really helped me tonight.
She recently toured with Matthieu Chedid, and the cover songs she sang of Bowie’s are utterly breathtaking. I adore them both!
I went on my honeymoon to Bali in October of 2015 and as I was boarding from a transfer in Qatar, I met eyes with Iman as she was sitting down in first class. I’ve been a fan of Bowie for many years and I knew that they were married. She looked sullen. A few months later, Bowie passed and I recalled seeing her and had wondered why she was heading to Bali. I later found out after searching the Internet that David Bowie loved Bali and its culture. One of his last wishes was to have a Balinese funeral. I can’t help but wonder to this day if this is why she was traveling there on the same flight. I’ll probably never know but such is life.
I miss him
This fucking rocks!
A time when auto tune wasn’t a thing, talent and artistry were prevalent.
I don’t enjoy music from my generation ( young millennial) it’s all different versions of meh at best. But old school music especially the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s are SUBLIME!
Dude! And Ice T on guitar.
Check out Bowie with Annie Lennox performing same song.
This song still so relevant and gives me goose bumps what? 40 yrs later? . One of my favorite duet songs ever. And this phenomenal bass player did Freddie’s part true justice✌🏼
Thanks for this gift! I love their harmony.
Saw this live and my husband and I still talk about Gail Ann Dorsey to this day. When performing you could see how much he appreciated and admired her artistry.
I haven’t seen someone play a Parker Fly in ages.
I’m just commenting so I can find this video again. Amazing wonderful wild talent. I love it.
Singing lead and holding down on the bass. Mad respect.
She used to sing solo lead on a cover of Laurie Anderson” “O Superman.” Bowie must have been doing a costume change or something.
If we can’t have Freddie to sing this with David, then I’m so glad we have her.
RIP Freddie and David
Chills and then a little choke up. I loved that freaking guy.
I feel 1996 was not long ago but that was 27 years ago!! Im old…
Gail Ann and David together was always magic.
This feels more recent than ‘96, interesting ah.
ALL RIGHT STOP!…
Gosh that’s unreal. Phenomenal
Man I miss David Bowie. Every year I watch the duet he did with Bing Crosby and I still can’t believe he’s the same guy as Ziggy Stardust. He’s one of the rare people on earth who seems to elevate everybody around him.
Didn’t Bowie say to her you got a week to learn the vocals and she freaked … and then realised she’d still be playing bass as well!!!
Because love’s such an old-fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the (People on streets) edge of the night
And love (People on streets) dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves
This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves under pressure
David Bowie wasn’t just old school cool. He’s all-time cool, as in every era he is cool and he always will be.
Read a book about Freddie Mercury and Queen. One of my favorite bits is how Bowie and Mercury wanted to collaborate on a song. So they hammered out Under Pressure in one VERY coke-fueled weekend.
That. Was fucking amazing! Thank you so much!
