Two very different lives they led. The Tsar was overthrown and brutally murdered along with his whole family. His first cousin went on to market and sell breaded fish fingers and frozen peas. Remarkable really.

It’s amazing to see the future King George V of the U.K. and Tsar Nicholas II of Russia standing together in this photo. It’s a reminder of the complicated relationships between European royal families at the time and how it would soon lead to the First World War.
I got to know tsar from the crown and how things did not went well for him and his family and after watching the epsiode went on internet for some search and it was indeed a sad ending for that family!!

Tsar Nicholas II and George V were first cousins because their mothers were sisters. George V, Kaiser Wilhelm, and Tsar Nicholas’ wife Alexandra were first cousins, all grandchildren of Queen Victoria.

World War I was basically just the War of Three Cousins. These two and Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany were all first cousins and grandchildren of Queen Victoria of England.
**EDIT** As someone below me pointed out, Nicholas was not descended from Victoria, but was a first cousin of George’s on the other side.

I often see this photo posted with the claim they look like identical twins . I think that’s absurd , the only thing that’s identical in this photo are their beards and outfits , their faces are actually quite different , their eyes and noses etc quite different
