It’s better than The Goonies.
Counterpoint: This movie was *always* fairly trash. Shane Black simply was not cut out to make kids movies, and this film – setting aside how gleefully homophobic it is most of the time for basically zero reason other than “it’s the 80s” – just has a lot of really dumb shit in it. It’s basically been cemented in the Geek Culture narrative as something like a “Hardcore” version of The Goonies, and appreciated as such by the same adolescent boys who wanted to feel some sort of thrill about watching something ostensibly meant for them but dumber, grimier, and “edgier” than the more popular thing.
It’s the same unexamined infantile thing that led people to honestly believe Transfomers: The Movie wasn’t a massive pile of shit literally trading off 1) It’s blatant ripping off of Star Wars and 2) the traumatization of watching your toys get murdered. Those two things don’t make a movie good. And neither does “Wolfman got nards”
What’s funny is: Basically every single mistake Fred Dekker and Shane Black make in this script they end up REPEATING when they reunite to make The Predator. It’s the same shitty movie. Just one of them is rated R now.
[Obligatory Wolfman’s got nards comment]
No way!
This movie and the gate are perfect for young horror fans. Great way to get young-ins into the genre!
Anyway that’s how I came across both when I was a kid. Loved em then still love them now!
I remember watching this in the theater when I was a kid
EAT! And we’ll call it a day.
How do you say ‘don’t kill me in German’?
RIP to Horace
Loved this movie as an 8 year old
I loved it back in the 80s. I was so surprised decades later when I found out it had t actually done well.
I think about this movie every now and then, goddamn it was great. This and some movie where they broke dogs out of the pound
My best friend had a crappy VHS copy that we watched on a tv cart under his steps in our “fort”. It blew our minds
One of my Halloween movies this year!
Wolf man has nads
Weird, randomly watched it last night. Still holds up with the exception of some off-colour dialogue that wouldn’t fly today.
The make-up (especially Wolfman’s) was top notch.
I just brought this movie up today.
Wolfman has nards!
