One of my favourite words in English is Murmuration. Whenever I see flocks of birds doing those complex moves, I keep thinking that they are just murmuring secrets with each other and each bird tries to listen in eventually leading to the whole flock moving one way or another.
Flocking behaviour can be simulated using the boids algorithm which uses three simple rules which are Separation, Alignment and Cohesion. Although, one has to wonder if it’s really that simple or if something more complex is happening.
