First time playing Dark Souls. I want to play Elden Ring but I thought I’d start from the first Dark Souls to get me into it. Wish me luck.

As someone who made the same mistake : Don’t! Elden Ring is way more easier than Dark Souls 1 (IMO) , playing dark souls 1 may make you hate FromSoftware games …
Elden ring is a real good dip your toes in point in the series. But if you start from Ds1 you’ll probably appreciate the improvements/QoL more
Aah! the classic souls experience. Remember “tension is the key” you won’t find this kinda tension in later games.
Having the master key can make some things pretty rough, just because you can get to areas you shouldn’t be at yet. If something seems way too hard, backtrack and come back later.
Don’t forget to PRAISE THE SUN [T]/
Don’t give up and take your time learning patterns. Much luck!
It could be less painful to start with DS3
Be funny to buy a car like this. I Want the 2022 so I bought the 09 version and I’ll drive that
Wish me luck.
You’re gonna need it.
OK this is hard. I beat the first boss and now I keep dying to some op skeletons
Skill is important, but having a healthy attitude towards defeat is more important.
I know this sounds like a legal warning, but don’t be afraid to take breaks when you find yourself getting angry or weary.
Even if you’ve not made any progression level wise, you’ve still gotten practice in that will make the next attempt a little easier, and that’s ultimately how you’ll beat the game
A fellow fan of the Kings Dark Tidings series I see!
Careful with the master key!
Luck won’t help you in this game. I wish you patience
Isn’t demons souls the first souls game?
I’ve beaten all the Souls games and I recently tried replaying DS1. Capra demon made me quit again. I know the strat, but still repeatedly got smoked and that run back sucks.
Hopefully you don’t burn out before you get to elden ring lmao
One of us.
im so jealous! i hope you enjoy the game!
Your shield is your best friend.
Don’t be afraid to rely on him.
Starting as a thief is a bold move, granted it’s one of the more powerful classes but harder at the beginning
Aaaaaand you’re dead. And you’re dead. Aaaand your dead. You’re dead. You died. Annnnnd your died
Skip sekiro or you won’t get to play elden ring this decade.
Some non-spoiler advice:
You are invincible for a brief time while rolling. Learning how to time rolls to avoid damage makes a huge difference in this game. Rolling into attacks is usually more likely to avoid damage because you will pass through the attack faster. When you get good at rolling, you’ll find you don’t use the shield very much (I used a shield constantly my first playthrough, I rarely use one now).
As others have said, if an area is too hard, consider whether there are other places open to you – it’s a pretty open game. You can go straight to some very difficult places if you know how.
Try to explore all the nooks and crannies. There are some pretty key items that you can easily pass by (like the item that lets you upgrade weapons above +5).
Learn how to backstab on the slow early game enemies – like what position you need to be in (I think in DS1 you can be in motion but in DS2 you have to be standing still when you hit attack, but I always get them mixed up).
Parrying is hard. I’ve beaten all the souls games and I suck at parrying. If it clicks for you, great, if not, don’t sweat it.
Accept you’re going to die a lot, and look at deaths as learning how to beat the areas. Also, try not to sweat losing souls. It’s really not that big a deal. If you die, you have to come back through the area and kill those enemies again anyway.
Good luck!
Ya.. do it the other way
The first time I played DS1 I was a casual gamer. I had never been so challenged before. Now, in life, when shit hits the fan, and everything is wrong, I can think back to this experience and tell myself that I’ve beaten DS – I can do this too.
Word of advice. Just power through that frustration at the goat boss with two dogs. Yes it’s a stupid fight, yes the dogs are just there to annoy you.
Also, kill dogs, run up stairs and jump attack. You’re welcome. Happy gaming!
