Another generic music biopic incoming…from the writer of bohemian rhapsody. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, there’s a great south park episode “Band in China” that perfectly parodies the lazy biopics that they’ve been shoveling out.
‘I wanna dance with somebody’ is much better title than ‘I need someone to reach up into my ass and pull the turds out because Ive done so many drugs I literally cant give a shit anymore’.
Ironically, while Whitney’s voice was and forever will be incredible, she was not a gifted dancer.
The Bodyguard is **THE** Whitney Houston biopic.
Happy ending and you will not leave the theatre depressed!
This one could be interesting because Whitney never really had a “comeback” per se and her life just gradually kept getting worse.
But this is from the writer of Bohemian Rhapsody, so this will probably ignore most of her later life.
I have no interest in this as I hate musical biopics but Naomi Ackie was fantastic in *Lady Macbeth* alongside Florence Pugh. It’s a **very dark** film but it put both of them on my radar but while Florence has become a star, Naomi hasn’t broken out in the same way yet. I hope this will be the project that turns things around for her.
[The actress they cast looks nothing like her.](https://www.thewikifeed.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/naomi-ackie-1-1.jpg)
It’s also approved by her estate so it’s unlikely to show the fuckedupness of her family. Houston was a product of r/raisedbynarcissists. The autobiography written by her mother is disturbing. From her own admittance, her “training” repeatedly brought Houston to tears and made her resent singing all together. She comes across as mean and condescending even when trying to make herself appear righteous. Her entire account of her child’s life is incredibly condescending and brutal, reiterating that Houston would not have been anything with our her. In early
career interviews, Houston showed extreme deference to her mother while her mother in turn seems particularly cold before and after Houston’s death. Yet she makes the point in her book that she doubts her daughter ever loved her.
Houston’s father/manager also stole much of her money throughout her career and even sued her for $100 million on his death bed.
Her drug addiction began because her older brothers gave her cocaine at 13. Her best friend/ early companion Robyn Crawford claims that while Houston was a teen, her parents allowed her brother’s to steal the money Houston made from modeling/background singing for drugs. She was also pressured to keep them employed when her record career got off the ground. It’s likely that they were an ongoing negative influence.
I don’t imagine any of this will be in the biopic.
Anthony McCarten, who wrote this as well as Bohemian Rhapsody, also wrote The Theory of Everything and Darkest Hour. Which is to say, he is my arch nemesis and must be stopped.
Tina Turner would have been a better story
Terrible title. Pretty terrible idea for a movie.
Skeptical producer character: I wanna dance with somebody? Who is this somebody? Nobody will ever play this. This won’t be the title of a movie.
Why does every music biopic has to be named after one of the artist’s songs?
(Also I get that this is largely for marketing, but this a rhetorical question criticizing how unoriginal and boring this is)
To do biographies justice I think they need to be done in long format. A series would be more interesting. Something that could devote realtime to specific portions of a person’s life.
Ironically, dancing was never her strongest suit.

I’m betting £20 they contrive to get through this whole film without using the word “Bisexual.”
Biopic is the worst genre of film
From bohemian rhapsody maker…so probably someone who does a good impression/looks like her in a super boring poorly made overrated movie. I can always hope I’m wrong. Fucking hated Bohemian Rhapsody and I like Rami
They think they’re slick, having her look up so her face is hidden on the poster. Not saying the movie will suck, but she looks nothing like Whitney and has distractingly bad teeth, compared to Whitney’s perfect smile (or an average human’s smile).
Everyone here hated Bohemian Rhapsody? I thought it was great. Don’t @ me. I know it was formulaic and apparently glossed over the rougher details of his life (which admittedly I know nothing about) but I thought it really showcased their music well and was inspring.
Why is she in a Christ pose?
Oh this looks a mess
When they do a Rush biopic, the should call it “I Think I’m Going Bald” since using the artists songs as a movie title is what’s popular.
I love love love Whitney Houston… but I think this is gonna be trash. I’m not familiar with the actress or her work but she doesn’t look like Whitney… but more importantly, her family being in control of this means it’s gonna not be truthful about a lot in her life. They were abusive to her…
I’ll probably check it out at some point, but I won’t pay for it… I don’t think all biopics are good. They miss out on a lot, but I’ve enjoyed some…. I just don’t have those hopes for this one.
