>In late 1930s LA, Marlowe is tasked with finding a beautiful heiresses’ missing former lover. He soon discovers that underneath the missing man’s disappearance lies a web of corruption that puts him in the crosshairs of several of the city’s richest, and most dangerous constituents.
In theaters December 2.
What’s that? Neil Jordan is still around and makes movies? And a Raymond Chandler too? And Liam is not phoning it in this time? Call me cautiously excited.
I am surprised by the color
Budget: So much rain. So many cigarettes. So many broads.
Let’s fucking go! Love hardboiled detectives.
Anyone read the book Wikipedia says this is based on (The Black-Eyed Blonde)?
Yep that’s definitely Liam Neeson
On paper this sounds great but Neeson is way too dry and solemn to play a captivating and relatable Marlowe.
An Irish Philip Marlowe seems odd. Never seen Neesom pull off a convincing American accent. He’s also way too old for the novel version – a major aspect to Marlowe is he’s world weary, and acts older than he is.
That said, still happy to see a new adaptation, and maybe they’ll tweak it in ways that work. Decent screenwriter, he wrote the Departed.
I thought Neeson retired?
Skills. He had a particular set of them. Acquired over a very long career, so he said. I didn’t believe him. He took a seat. I hadn’t asked him to. Said he was looking for his daughter. Some people had taken her. *Bad* people. He’d left them a message. If they let his daughter go, he’d forget all about it. That’d be the end of it. He wouldn’t look for them. Wouldn’t persue them. But if they didn’t let her go, it would be something else. He *would* look for them. He *would* find them. And he *would* kill them. So why did he need a down on his luck gumshoe like me, then?
Will he urinate himself in this movie?
Been wanting more of these kinds of movies forever! Alas, I’m, not so sure about casting Neeson as Philip Marlowe. Was definitely expecting a much younger actor. Like 20-30 years younger.
Not bad. I think Neeson can do it as well as Bogart, in his own style of course.
I’m not so sure about a 70-year old Marlowe.
I hope it’s at least as good as the Perry Mason HBO series.
I am all about the revival of mystery movies and TV.
Neeson finally back to starring in a film that isn’t soulless action schlock? I’m in.
I’ve been hoping for another contemporary Marlowe movie ala The Long Goodbye, but I suppose this’ll do. Neeson seems like a good fit for the role.
I thought he wanted to do improv, standup comedy, funny monologues, crazy characters, sketches, slapstick, anecdotes, parody.
The last few years it feels like the marketing departments are doing a terrible job of building hype.
Like Initial announcements are just pictures of actors dressed up in a suit.
It’s like they figured out how to use Reddit as a marketing vehicle but had nothing interesting to use for marketing purposes. So.. Here’s a picture of Casey Afflecks face for you first look at movie z coming out.
Yes please
It’s only a single image but I’m getting huge LA Noire vibes
I remember the Marlowe series on HBO starring Powers Booth.
He loves it when a case comes together.
There’s so much potential for the Philip Marlowe character. Too bad it’s being completely wasted on Liam Neeson. I’ve never seen anything of his that impressed me. One of the most overrated actors I can think of.
When do we get a Johnny Dollar movie?
Everyone jumping on the Knives Out train
Did people forget that he shot someone?
Hey! They didn’t ask me to be in this!?
Ah, it’s okay with me.
Looking forward to this, it’s nice when Neeson takes time out of his poorly edited action movies to make one’s that seem to require acting.
Neil Jordan seems to make a good movie about every 10 years. This could be a good one.
Daniela Melchior has a pretty good part in this movie if the movie faithfully adapts her character Lynn Peterson.
Marlowe via The Thursday Murder Club? Marlowe the famous geriatric detective…no.
Philip Marlowe? I’m in!
Neeson off his crappy action schtick and back with Jordan and Banville doing a noir sounds like a lot of a very good thing.
Neil Jordan is much more famous about directing another Vampire flick though.
This one shot looks better than the past few movies he’s been in so maybe it’ll be good. I like Liam, I just think he’s in the wrong roles
Looks like LA Noir video game
Man I was hyped for a la noir remake right now. Then I read the sub. Then the title..
Could be interesting. Though I like the idea of a Marlowe film being in black and white (to be like the noir classics), I’ll check this out.
He looks like a Vault-Tec salesman
More Matt Scudder!
Big fan of Neil Jordan. Especially his 80s stuff. Angel and Company of Wolves are great. Mona Lisa too. I’ll check this out.👍
