Maybe I’m in the minority but this looks extremely intriguing and at the same time extremely uninteresting. Critical reception has been mixed-to-positive from the fall festivals. Hoping Michael Mann has delivered with this.
I am so ready for this. And from the trailer it looks like he is using the the natural sound of the car crashes in the same way Heat used the actual gunfire sounds.
The shaky-cam during the driving sequences is forced and distracting, you’d think they would take more care for a movie about Ferrari.
Edit: why the downvotes? Do people like the shaky cam? They are also driving incredibly slowly and doing everything they can to make it look fast and interesting. Compared to Ford vs. Ferrari the driving looks like something out of a lifetime movie.
It’s Michael Mann, I’ll be there opening day no matter what but between this and reactions from Cannes, it doesn’t seem like it’s gonna be a great one.
Lol why do these racing movies always have to have some corny ass metaphor line like “two objects can’t occupy the same space”. How can anyone think that is anything but cringe spec garbage? After this I retract my support for Hollywood writers 😂
>It is the summer of 1957. Behind the spectacle of Formula 1, ex-racer Enzo Ferrari is in crisis. Bankruptcy threatens the factory he and his wife, Laura built from nothing ten years earlier. Their volatile marriage has been battered by the loss of their son, Dino a year earlier. Ferrari struggles to acknowledge his son Piero with Lina Lardi. Meanwhile, his drivers’ passion to win pushes them to the edge as they launch into the treacherous 1,000-mile race across Italy, the Mille Miglia.

My initial reaction was “Adam Driver way too tall for this part” but then was pleasantly surprised when I found out that Enzo Ferrari was well over 6′ tall. I stand corrected.
It looks fantastic but I really hope they improve the CGI. I was absolutely immersed in the trailer then that car accident part way through happened and pulled me right back out.
I am kind of wondering about the “you promised me he wouldn’t die” line. From the next line, “the father deluded himself”, I assume they are talking about their son. Yet it would b in the third person in that case. Not sure exactly who they are talking about, but if their son…
Spoilers…
Their son, Dino (who Enzo named a car after), died from muscular dystrophy. You see that kind of thing coming. He was sick for a long time. It wouldn’t be some massive shock. The trailer makes it seem like it was a car crash or something. Perhaps it’s all misdirection but I’m a bit confused about that scene.
edit: in an interview Enzo is quoted saying “I had deluded myself – as fathers often do – that our attentions would help [Dino] to regain his health.” Enzo thought he could prevent the disease from getting worse due to a special diet. I am betting that line comes from that. Trailer makes it seem like it was a car crash or something.
Mann said this is his passion project and it looks great
Having Adam Driver in a movie about Ferrari is like having a guy named Marc Webb direct The Amazing Spider-Man
That car accident at 2:03 looks terrible as hell.

Imagine a world where you’d cheat on Penelope Cruz as your wife.

Every year Hollywood catches up a little with Vinny Chase’s career.

You will believe a car can fly.

Michael Mann is able to make the lives of thieves and killers have existential feelings about their place in the world.
And now, Italian businessmen.
And he’s sticking a real camera right behind two cars, and the picture looks rather steady but visceral at the same time.
My initial reaction was “Adam Driver way too tall for this part” but then was pleasantly surprised when I found out that Enzo Ferrari was well over 6′ tall. I stand corrected.

Will the Ford movie open opposite?
There’s going to be a line of dads in white New Balance sneakers at the ticket booth to see this movie.

Why the fuck did the Ferrari levitate into a Neil Breen CGI.
