You should only sleep in the car if you’re taking turns driving so the other person is rested. Drives me nuts. Drove to Cali with family from Texas and me and my sisters Fiancé were swapping driving. Every time it was my turn to nap all the non drivers were always fast asleep. I’m like “STAY UP AND GIVE YOUR DRIVER SOME STIMULATION SO I CAN NAP IN PEACE , PLEASE!!”
This is one of those instances where I’d be okay with a permanent license ban for the driver. He’s beyond lucky this video isn’t titled “man falls asleep at the wheel, kills family of four, faces years in prison”. If you’re tired – STOP DRIVING. Pull over. Have a nap. You don’t have a right to put my life and the lives of others at risk over your lack of responsibility.
I had this happen once driving back from the Abraham lake mountains in the direction of rocky mountain house and then to Red Deer. I had climbed one of the lake surrounding mountains that day, up and back down in one day and I was tired as fuck. There was a small town where I had planned to drink some coffee or get some energy drinks but I was 30 minutes to late and everything was closed already. I thought I could make it to Rocky mountain house where I could wake myself up with some strong energy drank.
But I did fall asleep. I don’t know for how long … maybe 1 second .. maybe 5 but I woke up finding my car on the other lane with another car coming towards me, honking and brights flashing. I did not lose control but I made myself a promise never to ever risk it like that anymore. I found a spot, pulled over. Tried to sleep in my car. Woke up when the sun did. Learned a valuable lesson that night. If you get to tired, don’t risk it. Find a spot, get some sleep even if it’s crappy sleep in the drivers chair.
Dude got so lucky having the worlds widest gentlest ditch on the side off the road. I thought the car flipped for a second. It would have hitting most ditches I see.

A tip if you hit the point where you’re tired while driving:
Slap yourself in the face, hard, or have a passenger do it for you. That should keep you alert enough to find a safe place to get some sleep.
