Exploring JWST’s Ultra Deep Field!

  • With all these galaxies out there, there has to be other life out there. But I can’t imagine any body has the technology to visit us, or if they do, why would they visit a lesser developed species at all?

  • Did you know the JWST doesn’t have normal shutters on its camera’s but microshutters? I mean, nothing is normal on this thing so it’s probably no surprise. But these things are so special. Invented specifically for this application -> 250,000 individual shutters, each just 100×200 micron in size! Developed over the course of 6 years, each shutter is able to stand the fatigue of years and years of repeated opening and closing in near-zero temperatures. These microshutters are just one example from an array of inventions, each individually worth an entire exhibition at any museum imaginable.

Even then, the beauty of the art of this technology pales in comparison to the imagery the JWST produces, changing the way humanity views its position in Space and Time, forever.

And we sit here watching the result of all that on a silent screenrecording of someone panning a jpeg on a tiny screen. I bet James Webb would roll over in his grave if he heard that.
