Every time I open ark since it won’t auto update for some reason. Needs a huuuge update. Then I forget about it for another 6 months. Then go to play it, another huuuge update
Keep in mind part of this is because they usually have to replace the old files, so there’s a brief moment where you need the space to have two copies before it deletes the old.
sometimes it’s just a recompile and some optimisations so it’s just a reinstall, if we are unlucky it’s an attempted bug fix but it just makes it even more buggy and harder to run.
Microsoft Flight Simulator is the worst offender of this (though it makes sense as they are constantly updating the map.) Don’t even think I’ve played it in months because the routine goes like this:
1. Open up Flight Simulator
2. See a 100gb update
3. Start downloading and go do something else
4. Forget about it for a week
5. Repeat steps 1-4

This is part of the reason why I don’t update my PS4/5 games.
If you have never witnessed the horror of Scum updating…
“It’s just bug fixes”, today, even if the code is text, it weighs more than graphics lol
Microsoft download/flight simulator, it’s great and all but the updates…
