I’ve been watching this movie since I was a child and this scene still always always makes me laugh so hard. Its also my favorite Ernest movie by far. RIP Jim
My father was absent when I was a kid. My mom left him when I turned 4. Tv and movies provided a perfect escape from reality.
Jim looked almost exactly like my father and it was easy to pretend Jim, the positive, funny, friendly fatherly figure was my own father. His death still hurts.
I haven’t even watched the video. But I know it well.
I saw this in theaters with a friend tripping our asses off and it was one of the funniest things i’ve seen up until that point. Like the kind of laughing where you can’t stop even when you’re trying lol.
Loved this movie as a kid. Best part was the end when he was weightless and bad guy Nash starts bouncing Ernest like a basketball; “CHUCKBOBBYCHUCKBOBBYCHUCKBOBBY!”
Jim Varney could make just about anything funny. When I re-watch some of the movies, the writing isn’t even very good but yet he’s still funny. That’s making a lot out of not very much in my opinion. He’s brilliant.
I seem to vaguely remember from childhood, a scene from one of the Ernest films where he shuts a bin lid on his hand. No idea which film it was though.
I haven’t seen this since I was preschool age. I hated this scene so much. As someone who suffers terribly from 2nd hand embarrassment, this is my living nightmare.
I love the slightly erratic camera work when the shot goes to Ernest. It’s at this weird angle and slightly shaky. It’s subtle but adds so much to the scene!
This is one of the first scenes I remember watching as a child and having uncontrollably laughter.
I also remember in Ernest Scared Stupid when that person rolls over in their bed and there’s a troll there that being one of the first times I felt truly terrified from a movie as a kid.
Saw this when I was a kid, watching on black and white TV, and I really thought he stabbed his gums with the pen and started bleed all over. Saw it years later in color and the ink makes more sense
Peak physical comedy
Jim Varney and Rowan Atkinson were my favorites as a kid. They just do comedy so well.
I just love how it progressively gets worse and worse every time it goes back to him, no matter what he does. lol
Man, I remember laughing so much it hurt when I first saw this scene.
I will thumbs up the fuck out of anything Ernest P Worrel. I dont even care the context. <3
Know what I mean Verne

I used to love Ernest as a kid, and I know the actor was a nice guy, but I could never quite pinpoint why he creeps me out

I see Ernest, I upvote. Know what I mean, Vern?
For some reason that while looked like it smelt like cigarettes. It looked like the smoking section of a restaurant. I don’t know why
For I am Ernest P Worrell…
ELECTRO MAN!!
This scene has lived rent-free in my head since I was a kid
How to spot the smoker.. oral fixation
Would love to see Jim Carrey do a Jim Barney tribute.
Anyone else getting Waters of Mars vibes from the thumbnail?

Iconic.
Actually have had this happen to me in school. Not nearly that bad, but it felt like it was!!
“Ernest Goes to Jail” was the peak of the Ernest P. Worrell film franchise. Fight me.

This happened to me in the 6th grade after I seen this flick, too
actually laughed, then it got seemingly dark right before the end lol
That awkward moment when you are chewing gum and a bubble exploited in your face and no mirror to help you remove it.

Jim Varney and Robin Williams should have starred in a couple movies together

Never knew he started out making very popular and successful commercials.
Comedy was different.
He just needs a nice jar of Authentic Bulgarian Miak to wash it all down.
