Elmore James playing ‘Dust My Broom’ in 1951. One of the most beautiful blues recordings ever. The guitar tone, the soaring vocals, the fat backing band….just terrific.

Elmore didn’t even know he was being recorded as he was performing this exact version. He was a shy person.
He’s always been one of my favorites and in my opinion this and The Sky Is Crying are his best songs
One of the first times you could hear a drum set being played with the snare being on the backbeat (2 and 4). Rock n roll hadn’t been created yet and jazz bands were the only other time you saw a full drum set.
Now we’re talking. Great choice.
ZZ Top did a great version of this
Now I know Stevie Ray Vaughn’s inspiration.

Thanks for sharing; I needed to hear music like this today.
One of my favorite songs. I like this version, also love the Robert Johnson version.
believe I’ll just ‘Dust My Broom’ ….
Freddie King did a great unplugged version of this song on an album I had on vinyl (Getting Ready? Cant recall). It is the only recording I have heard of him playing an acoustic guitar, unaccompanied. It is very good, but Elmore James’ numerous versions are all as good as it gets. This one included!
Without these men AND women, Rock & Roll would not exist!!!
Getting vibes that Sam Cooke might have heard this before making Somebody Have Mercy.
