  • Im fairly sure the plot of this movie is based on the real life incident that affected Gene Tierney. While pregnant she attended a USO Dance for the troops and after a fan broke quarantine; they danced with Gene and gave her rubella causing her child to be born severely disabled, deaf and partly blind.

    Of course Gene didn’t react in the same way as the character in The Mirror Crack’d but she was affected with depression and mental illness for the rest of her life.

  • This is one of my favourite films to put on in the background and just listen to since I’ve seen it so many times, so here’s some fun trivia;

    Angela Lansbury was reluctant to take the role of Miss Marple in this film, despite it being one of her most favourite roles. She thought that she was too young to play the role of Miss Marple, despite making the film in her fifties.

    She loved playing Miss Marple so much that she created *Murder, She Wrote*. In fact, the opening scene of the film – where Miss Marple solves a fictional murder after the film projector breaks down – was recreated in the pilot film for the series, *The Murder of Sherlock Holmes* as the first scene where we meet Jessica Fletcher, who solves the murder being rehearsed after only seeing the first half.

    The film also has an unusual connection to the James Bond films – the butler in charge of overseeing the household was played by the same actor who played Blofeld in *Diamonds Are Forever*, while Pierce Brosnan has an uncredited role in the cinema murder scene.

    The film removed several other characters and suspects or changed their context slightly, compared to the book. There was a third victim – >!the aforementioned butler!< who survived in the film and Heather Badcock’s husband was also cut out completely, along with the plotline that >!he was Marina’s secret first husband; yes, Marina’s obsessed fan married her ex!<. The photographer at the party was also important in the novel but her role was greatly reduced – >!she was fostered by Marina when she was a child and wants payback for being abandoned.!<
