I always thought the painting was of a young man over looking the turbulent sea but he’s actually just over looking the Alps through a heavy fog, still one of my favorite paintings though
Elden Ring has dozens of amazing cliff views that look like paitings.
The best part is if you can see something from the cliff you can go there, see that big castle/academy in the distance, travel through the fog of the lake and you can reach it.
say what you want about Elden Ring but it nailed the feeling of adventure and discovery.
Though the colors match, the idea of the painting is to convey man’s superiority over the environment. The presence of the castle evokes more of a sense of confrontation, maybe of adventure.
