With a a length of 11.611 km (7.215 mi) Mont Blanc tunnel used to be the longest tunnel in the world from its inauguration day in 1965 till 1978, when the Arlberg Road Tunnel opened in Austria.
The tunnel passes almost exactly under the summit of the [Aiguille du Midi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aiguille_du_Midi). At this spot, it lies 2,480 metres (8,140 ft) beneath the surface, making it the world’s second deepest operational tunnel after the Gotthard Base Tunnel.
Better than that time I went through the Mel Blanc tunnel!
*Modern Family Guy cutaway where it looks like a painted on tunnel, but you see Peter driving from far away and he looks determined to drive though it. It cuts between him and the tunnel many times, leading you to believe the joke is going to be that he can indeed drive through it, but he just smashes into the wall and is physically mangled and quivering a bit with broken bones visible*

Reminds me of the Mont Blanc Tunnel fire, a lot of communication and procedure issues. [WTYP](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1BWwuE6muM) had a good episode on it.
I sat in 2hrs of traffic and then paid 50? 60? Euros to drive through that tunnel. 1/10 would not recommend.
Fake, There is no two hour long traffic congestion at the entrance. /s
Where’s my pen?
